Sam hosts historian Gerald Horne to discuss his new book The Dawning of the Apocalypse: The Roots of Slavery, White Supremacy, Settler Colonialism, and Capitalism in the Long Sixteenth Century. Professor Horne examines the roots of the capitalist system in the New World, including the slave labor used to produce commodities like sugar plantations in the Caribbean. Sam and Professor Horne conclude their conversation examining how European leaders improvised a vision of pan-Europeanism and racial superiority and how it relates to today's white supremacist groups and antiracist efforts from the grassroots.
