The Majority Report with Sam Seder

Sam hosts Elie Mystal, justice correspondent at the Nation magazine, to discuss this week's SCOTUS rulings on abortion TRAP laws, executive authority over the CFPB, USAID funding, and the First Amendment, and religious schools receiving taxpayer dollars. Sam and Elie breakdown the recent rulings with the understanding that John Roberts is doing his best to dress up the court as an apolitical institution. Mystal says the goal of Roberts is to bend the law as much as possible to the GOP's agenda. The two conclude their conversation assessing the possibility of court-packing under a Democratic White House and conservatives justices' efforts to deescalate calls for court-packing.

And in the Fun Half: Rand Paul wants Fauci to be more optimistic about COVID response, Cuomo's Mt. COVID metaphor, a disappointing result in Kentucky senate primary, Trump's white power retweet and the Daily Wire clean-up, the barefoot gun-totters in St. Louis, Donald Trump misses the beautiful statues in the towns and villages, Sasha Baron Cohen pranks a conservative rally in Washington, plus your calls and IMs!

On today's show: Mike Huckabee says you can only blame Trump for Covid if US mismanaged response and pretended it wasn't serious.

Sam hosts Adam Goodman, assistant professor of history at the University of Illinois at Chicago, to discuss his new book, The Deportation Machine: America's Long History of Expelling ImmigrantsAnti-immigrant politics have taken center stage in the age of Trump. In this book, Goodman tracks the history of anti-immigrant politics and deportations in the US, from the anti-Chinese laws of the 1920s, to the treatment of Mexican migrants as guest-workers to be exploited but never accepted, to the rise of exclusionary policies targeting Mexicans via a system of formal deportations, “voluntary” departures, and self-deportations. The goal: to blame "the other" for economic problems and exert discipline over migrant labor.

St. Lucie Co. Florida man says mask ordinance is attempting to "muzzle" him. Dave Rubin admits he's asked Rogan's team "a bajillion" times to have him back on JRE & gotten no response. Nathan Robinson & Glenn Greenwald on authentic politics, populism, Sagaar & Krystal Ball. Eight Stories of Corporations Defending the Indefensible, from the Slave Trade to Climate Change. Sam and Freese discuss how the psychology of corporate denial has remained the same over centuries. Freese contends that when confronted with the harm they cause—whether to individuals or to the environment—corporations deny the evidence, blame their victims, complain of witch-hunts, attack their critics, and rationalize their destructive behavior. Sam and Freese also delve into how society fights back against corporate lies using tools of democracy like boycotts, government intervention, and media scrutiny.

And in the Fun Half: when the White House lies about "flattening the curve," Larry Kudlow says get used to Covid, the importance of the NY16 and Kentucky senate primary, Greg Gutfeld's Steven Crowder DMs, plus your phone calls and IMs!

On today's show: Ben Shapiro says left wants "systemic unjustice," insane circular logic arrives at "there is no systemic racism" and things that are "legally racist" are so "on behalf of minorities."

Alexandria Neason, staff writer at the Columbia Journalism Review, joins Michael to discuss her piece "Officials Say..." and her reporting on the relationship between the media and police. The history of police propaganda and how the cops have worked with the mainstream press to create their own reality and enforce white supremacy. The white press' handling of the 1955 Emmett Till story as case study. How the police continue to leak their own info to the press in cases like that of Laquan McDonald, who was fatally shot by Chicago police in 2014. The reckoning that journalists are currently having with regard to their complicity in how they cover the police.

On the fun half: The incomplete picture the May jobs report paints of Americans' economic well being. Asked about Trump tweet on OAN report about 75-year-old in Buffalo, Kayleigh McEnany says Trump is just raising questions. Fascist Brian Kilmeade: If cops show weakness they "will be steamrolled." After Elliot Engel tries to call out progressive challenger Jamal Bowman, Bowman says he's a school principal in Engel's district, hasn't seen him because Engel lives in Maryland. American Indian movement tears down Columbus statue at Minnesota statehouse. Black conservative at Trump roundtable says Don Lemon and Joy Reid are more dangerous than drug dealers. Steve Mnuchin says there's not much distinction between indoor and outdoor spread of Covid. Dave Rubin says secularism is running rampant, and that's why he's exploring religion. Sam breaks down the latest round of protests and Trump's efforts to rally the silent majority. Sam reviews Trump's call state governors in the show's free half, where the president demanded they "dominate" protestors and jail those who organized the protests. He also investigates Trump's bible photo-op outside St. Johns Church and Trump's use of the military to disperse peaceful protestors. The free half wraps up with clips from yesterday's protests in Seattle and what happened with the All Lives Matter bowhunter in Salt Lake City.

And in the Fun Half: Tucker Carlson says the Jews (Jared Kushner) are screwing up Trump's response, Brian Kilmeade says CIA needs to commence domestic interference to stop protestors, Sam and Nomiki speculate on how this situation could escalate, Trump has steeped America in his ideology, cops are resigning from the force, other cops look like they're planting bricks, and some are getting cursed out, today's primary contests, police brutalization against Native Americans, the failure of democratic leadership, plus your calls and IMs!

On today's show: Sam hosts Scott Roberts, Senior Director of Criminal Justice Campaigns at Color of Change, to discuss the nationwide protests against police brutality. The connections between austerity and bloated police budgets. How the police are used to deal with social ills that would be better handled by social workers or mental health professionals. The negative role played by police unions. The contingencies impacting the effectiveness of consent decrees. Some ideas for reforms that could tamp down on police brutality.

John Barry, author of The Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Plague in History also joins the program to discuss how the 1918 Spanish Flu can inform how America handles the second wave of Covid19. How the confluence of biology and politics created the conditions for a deadly global pandemic in 1918. What the 1918 pandemic taught us about the need for government transparency. The political obstacles to treating a global pandemic and what governments around the world should be doing.

On the fun half: National Guard fires rubber bullets at bystanders with no warning. NYC MTA bus driver refuses to transport cops. Tom Cotton says if unrest continues, the 101st airborne should be called in. A call from Sam's long lost son. Biden suggests the "reform" of cops shooting people in the leg instead of the chest. Dan Bongino calls for DOJ and White House to "legally decapitate" antifa. Asked if Trump will address nation, Kayleigh McEnany says that won't stop antifa. Plus, your calls and IMs.
