Adam Federman then brings us to Greenland as he walks through the multiple layers of US state interest in the land, with a particular focus on military strategy and resource extraction. First, he and Emma look to the post-WW2 settling of myriad US military bases (and the related displacement of indigenous communities) on the island, and the continued emphasis on its geopolitical location amid growing Russia-NATO tensions, before wrapping up with the growing potential for mineral and environmental extraction in a surprisingly attractive (white, European) country.

And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Brandon Sutton and Matt Binder as they watch Kristie Noam take on the hard job of discussing history for the Fox News audience, before taking their own time to reflect on the bloody legacy of Henry Kissinger and his mantle in US politics. It's News Day Tuesday! Sam and Emma break down the biggest headlines of the day. After a reflection on Sam's birthday (today!) and the anniversary of Mike Cernovich's attempted cancellation of Sam, he and Emma take a look at a report, first seen on an Israeli public broadcast then translated by the Times of Israel, that Prime Minister Netanyahu appealed to members of the Likud Party that, basically, he has no allegiance to President Biden and will do whatever he wants when it comes to Gaza. Wonder how folks in the Biden administration feel about that! Then, they break down Moore v. United States, a case the Supreme Court will hear in the next few weeks that would essentially, before it'd even have a chance to become government policy, foreclose the possibility of a wealth tax in this country. After, they touch on a report from the Seattle Times on local Macy's worker walking off the job for better pay but (surprise!) also due to fears for their safety because the business they work for isn't interested in actually creating a safe working environment free from threats of shoplifting and other issues retail workers have to face on a daily basis (and we thought business owners cared about crime!)

And in the Fun Half, Sam and Emma check in on the tuxedoed former Speaker, Kevin McCarthy, at a debate with the Oxford Union where he, and stop me if you've heard this before, ahistorically claims that the U.S. has NEVER asked for land during an armed conflict (wonder why they never asked)! Sam and Emma speak with Naomi Klein, professor of Climate Justice at the University of British Columbia, to discuss her recent book Doppelganger: A Trip into the Mirror World. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on Israel and Hamas’ prisoner exchanges and ceasefire, the arrest of an individual over the shooting of three Palestinian men in Vermont, the return from Congressional recess, labor action with Portland’s teachers, Seattle’s Macy’s workers, and European Amazon workers, COP28, Meta’s exploitation of kids, and Twitter’s ad-emergency, also touching on Christ Murphy’s comments regarding conditioning aid to Israel (like we do with everyone else). Next, Naomi walks Sam and Emma through the far-right’s active organizing around this tactic, with Steve Bannon’s global network of far-right parties fusing the age-old phobias of fascism with weak claims of economic populism, and why the only true counter to that is a strong left-wing that presents and fights for genuine solutions to rampant economic and social inequality. After briefly touching on Israel’s role as a doppelganger of Bannon’s politics, attempting to solve anti-semitism not through acceptance and justice, but a hyper-nationalist project, before wrapping up with the coincidence of the loss of Bernie’s campaign with the COVID-19 pandemic, and how it forced the left to reflect on its failures.

It's News Day Tuesday! But first, Sam and Emma speak with Jacob Sugarman, lifestyle editor at the Buenos Aires Herald and writer at The Nation, to discuss Javier Milei's recent victory in Argentina's presidential election. First, Sam and Emma react to the absolute shock from the crew over at "The Daily", the New York Times podcast, and CNN's Christiane Amanpour, that Israel could've potentially constructed the tunnels under Al-Shifa hospital that Hamas is supposedly using to conduct their operations in Gaza. Then, Jacob returns to the program to react to Javier Milei's resounding victory in the presidential race in Argentina. Jacob runs through how Milei, while slightly underperforming in the general election, received a groundswell of coalition support from the right to catapult him to victory in the runoff against his opponent Sergio Massa. Jacob, while not wanting to make too broad of a comparison between Argentinian and American politics, does see Milei's coalition support on the right as analogous to the wagon circling that took place within in the GOP under Trump. Jacob runs through some of Milei's policy prescriptions and oddities (like...potentially tapping his sister to be first lady), and then Emma has Jacob run through why, contrary to certain political victories recently by the left in countries such as Brazil and Chile, Argentina's left has proved itself to be rather anemic. Jacob also runs through some of the broad strokes of context of the political movement of the Peronists, and whether or not the party itself continues to have any viability after Milei's resounding victory. After Jacob jumps off, Sam and Emma break down the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals taking another stab at gutting the Voting Rights Act, this time going after Section 2, making it more difficult for voting rights groups and other entities to file legal challenges against discriminatory voting practices.

And in the Fun Half, the MR Crew reacts to Sen. Markwayne Mullin, fresh off his potential title bout against Teamsters President Sean O'Brien, going on Fox Business to explain that, actually, Gazans don't live in a ghetto and could go anywhere they want if they'd just endure entering and exiting checkpoints! (Is that right?). Sam and Emma then check in on Nikki Haley's race for 2nd place, which includes getting owned by a girl at one of her rallies who, contrary to Nikki's wishes, is just wearing her campaign merch because it was free. Sam and Emma speak with Jonathan Graubart, professor of political science at San Diego State University, to discuss his recent book Jewish Self-Determination beyond Zionism: Lessons from Hannah Arendt and other Pariahs. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on the growing death toll in Gaza, Israel’s turn towards Indonesian Hospital in Gaza, potential conditions on US aid to Israel, Biden’s cratering poll numbers, North Dakota’s violation of the Voting Rights Act, and flight attendant labor action, before parsing through the election of Javier Milei to the presidency of Argentina. Next, they’re joined by Jonathan Graubart as dives right into his work exploring the competing visions for Jewish self-determination outside of the extremist revisionist Zionism that dominates the conversation today. After touching on the pushback to his work, as well as the inspiration behind it, Graubart dives into the contrasting strains of Martin Buber’s vision of “cultural Zionism” – one that emphasized a non-statist revival of the Jewish community in the holy lands of Palestine – the mainstream, statist Zionism of Theodor Herzl, and the vitriolic revisionist Zionism of Ze’ev Jabotinsky (a legacy carried by Netanyahu), all of which were prevalent at the start of the 20th Century. Professor Graubart explores the central influence of European imperialism on Buber’s explicit rejection of Jewish nationalism in favor of a broader independent, spiritual, and socialist egalitarianism, before stepping into the practical application of Buber’s Zionism with the creation of various multi-faith and multi-cultural federations in the 1920s and ‘30s, alongside increasing pleas to his opponents in the Zionist community to embrace the presence of Palestinians as neighbors and community members. After briefly walking through the political leverage behind the various Zionist movements – and the particular role the British played in bolstering the plan for an exclusionary Jewish state – Graubart dives into the critiques of Zionism leveled by Hannah Arendt, contrasting Buber’s affirmative vision of Hebrew Humanism he hoped to create with her pathologizing of a Zionist movement that had once inspired her, as she explore the influence of “Eternal Anti-semitism Syndrome” (the belief that everyone, everywhere is against the Jews, at all times) and Tribal Nationalism in completely undermining the cultivation of Jewish culture, Jewish community, Jewish safety, and Jewish self-determination. Expanding on this, Professor Graubart explores the concept of “self-determination” itself, and the contradictory relationship between self-determination for a community that is moving into a region, and the continued autonomy of the pre-existing community. After parsing through the eventual breakdown of Buber’s Humanist Zionism amid increasing power and violence exercised by the Zionist right, as well as Palestinian resistance to a bi-national solution (while supporting the presence of Jews as community members with equal rights), and the role of the 1948 Nakba in officially destroying the unique possibilities of a productive Zionism, Sam, Emma, and Jonathan wrap up with a tentative discussion on the future of any solution to this conflict.

Then, they're joined by actor Shaan Sharma, member of the SAG-AFTRA negotiating committee, to discuss the tentative agreement reached between the union and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). First, Sam and Emma run through updates on Israel’s raid of Al-Shifa hospital, the pro- and anti-war movements regarding Israel, a government shutdown, the UAW’s contract, Starbucks’ labor action, New York politics, and Paul Pelosi’s attacker, also checking in on the large pro-war rally in D.C. that played host to Van Jones, myriad US Congresspeople, and noted antisemitic Pastor John Hagee. Andy Kroll then joins, first running through some quick background on Leonard Leo, and how he came to completely reshape the Federalist Society into perhaps the most influential legal institution in US politics. Kroll begins with the 1992 Conservative Supreme Court affirming Roe v. Wade in Planned Parenthood v. Shaan Sharma then walks Sam and Emma through the structure of SAG-AFTRA’s national board, and his role in the organization, before touching on the central elements of the negotiation – namely bringing wages into line with cost-of-living, getting actors residuals from streaming, and appropriate AI protections. Happy Monday! Sam and Emma speak with Robert P. Jones, President and Founder of the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI), to discuss his recent book The Hidden Roots of White Supremacy: and the Path to a Shared American Future. First, Sam and Emma break down what has taken place over the weekend in Israel and Gaza, as well as the enormous pro-Palestine demonstrations that were held across the world, specifically the massive march that took place in Washington D.C. to demand a ceasefire. Then, they're joined by Robert, who discusses his research on something known as the "discovery doctrine", a policy put in place by colonizers in the 15th century to justify expropriating lands of indigenous peoples abroad in the name of Western/European exploration and conquering, and how that doctrine has even been used to this day to justify anti-indigenous Supreme Court rulings and policy as recently as the early 1990's. Robert also delves in 3 different communities in Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Mississippi and draws a through line between them, highlighting how indignities inflicted by white settlers on indigenous peoples and by racist whites later on in history on black people characterized all of them, with the "discovery doctrine", while with slight permutations, defines the interactions across ethnicities in those areas. Jones also makes clear the connection between Christian nationalism and white supremacy, and how much of the colonizing mindset, from the 15th century conquests of explorers like Hernando de Soto up until the expeditions of settlers moving West during the time of "Manifest Destiny" in the late 1800's, are defined by both ideologies. Before he leaves, Robert threads this particular needle to the present day in the time of Speaker Mike Johnson, someone he refers to as "the embodiment of Christian nationalism in a tailored suit."

And in the Fun Half, Sam and Emma touch on the terrible polling out of the NYTimes/Siena college, as well as ABCNews/Ipsos, that shows Biden's favorability plummeting and him losing multiple hypothetical swing state matchups with Trump, a showing so bad that even David Axelrod wants Biden to consider stepping aside.
