It's Casual Friday! Sam is BACK from jury duty! He speaks with Ryan Grim, DC Bureau Chief at The Intercept, to round up the week in news. First, Sam runs through updates on the US’ airstrike in Syria, Israel’s tank raids in Gaza, the climbing death toll in Gaza, UAW labor action, the shooter still on the run in Maine, Mike Johnson’s Speakership, Georgia’s gerrymander, and George Santos’ standing within the NY GOP. Ryan Grim then joins as he and Sam walk through Biden’s decision to bomb Iranian facilities in Syria in an attempt to *prevent* the Israel-Gaza conflict from becoming regional, before stepping back to look at the problems with Biden’s greater approach to the ethnic cleansing in Gaza, including his recent choice to legitimize doubts about the internationally-backed numbers of Gaza’s Ministry of Health, and his full-throated backing of Israel’s mission. After tackling some of the other responses we’ve seen from the US left, Grim and Sam watch some of Mike Johnson’s theocratic highlights through the years as they explore the absurdity of his speakership, and the Republican party as a whole, before wrapping up with an assessment of the Matt Gaetz of it all.
