Next, Eisen looks to the role of Starbucks’ recent trademark lawsuit and the union’s countersuit in pushing Starbucks to come back to the table with the union and attempt to prove good faith after years of union-busting, and granting backpay and other benefits provided to the union. After briefly stepping back to look and where this project came from, and the particular role that Donald Trump plays in it, Grant walks Sam through the specifics of the project, centering around this idea of enshrining the family (more specifically the heterosexual nuclear family) at the core of policies to undermine same-sex marriage, trans rights, the DOE, social programs writ large, and generally gut the 14th amendment’s right to privacy when it comes to sexual and gender identity. After briefly touching on the role of the 1873 Comstock Act as central to the Heritage Foundation’s plan, Grant tackles Project 2025’s major goals of removing all mention of reproductive rights and abortion from US government policy, and punishing any governmental or public organizations that do not comply with their myriad fascist changes. Wrapping up, Melissa and Sam discuss the ideological focus of the project’s recruitment methods, and why their numbers are falling well short of their vision as the election draws closer.

It's News Day Tuesday! But later in the program Sam and Emma speak with Ofer Cassif, member of the Israeli Knesset representing the Hadash coalition, to discuss the recent failed effort to expel him for Israeli parliament due to his support of the case against Israel that South Africa has brought in front of the International Court of Justice (ICJ). First, Sam and Emma react to Shawn Fain's interview with CBS's Robert Costa, where, despite Costa's surprise at Fain's appearance and mild-mannered nature, Fain makes clear that he doesn't believe billionaires should exist and that class warfare has existed for 40 years. They then dive into today's Michigan presidential primary and the burgeoning effort to vote "Uncommitted" instead of for President Biden, and what kind of numbers the "Uncommitted" effort could generate to instill real fear in the Biden campaign. Then, they touch on the FTC responding to the proposed Kroger-Albertson's merger, and how, under the leadership of Chair Lina Khan, the interests of workers has come front and center when it comes to potentially unfair mergers that could stifle competition and better wages. After that, they discuss the continued fallout from the Alabama Supreme Court ruling on IVF, and Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth's decision to ask for unanimous consent for her legislation that would enshrine federal protections for IVF and other treatments. And finally, the MR Crew react to President Biden's appearance on Seth Meyers, where he predicted a negotiated ceasefire would be coming soon, while also reminding viewers that he is a proud Zionist, even referencing his favorite person to reminisce about, Golda Meir. Ofer Cassif then joins the program to discuss the details surrounding the failed attempt to expel him from the Knesset, the attitudes towards Israel's offensive in Gaza among the broader Israeli public, what, if any investigations into the violence on Oct. 7th are underway regarding potential further implication of IDF soldiers in some of the violence that took place, and how the "judicial reform" efforts of pre-Oct. 7th by Netanyahu and Likud both precipitated current attitudes towards the Israeli offensive and against the people of Gaza. Cassif emphasizes that empathy and support for victims of Oct. 7th at the hands of Hamas doesn't obviate empathy and support for victims in Gaza at the hand of Israeli forces, and highlights how ruthless some of the reactions have been towards families of Israeli hostages who are calling for an extended ceasefire so that their family members can have a chance at safe passage home to Israel, that is to say if they're still alive.

Later, Sam and Emma react to journalists Yuval Abraham and (friend of the show) Basel Adra accepting an award for their documentary at a Berlin film festival, and highlighting the inequities of Israeli society. This, of course, was deemed "anti-semitic" by the mayor of Berlin and Israeli news channels. Closer to home, they take a look at Barnard College outlawing decorations on dorm doors due to similarly spurious charges of "anti-semitism" (this time in the form of a lawsuit by a group of students. The MR Crew then check in on the festivities of CPAC this past weekend, where Megyn Kelly looks on the bright side of anti-semitism on college campuses, and Stephen Miller outlines in gratuitous detail what a 2025 Trump immigration (read: deportation) agenda would really look like. Happy Monday! Sam is BACK from vacation! He and Emma speak with Ganesh Sitaraman, law professor at Vanderbilt University, to discuss his recent book Why Flying Is Miserable: And How To Fix It. First, Sam and Emma touch on how former President Trump's 2024 campaign is going after handily defeating Nikki Haley in South Carolina on Saturday, and what he is choosing to focus on in order to win back skeptical independent women voters in the suburbs: by, as he does to Fox's Bret Baier, re-litigating the 2020 election of course! They then reflect upon how Trump won't actually need that support because, as he said at a gathering of black conservatives in South Carolina this weekend, black people will vote for him because they know what it's like to be indicted and charged with crimes. After that, Sam and Emma talk to Ganesh and discuss how the system for airlines that began in the 1930's in the U.S. came about, and how it differed and was similar to other public entities like the U.S. Post Office. Ganesh expands upon how Congress struggled with implementation of the airline industry and whether over or under-regulating the industry would lead to too much or not enough competition. Sam asks Ganesh if, as per the Constitution in how it enumerates capabilities for the Post Office, whether lawmakers could have invoked that authority in the Constitution to reflect on air travel, a "Post Office of the skies" if you will. Later, Ganesh gets into how airports and ticket pricing factored into the development of U.S. air travel, and how quality of travel precipitously declined after deregulation took effect on the industry in the late 1970's. This then led to, in the 1980's, many mergers and bankruptcies in the sector, and a return to how the industry was constructed in the 1930's, only without any robust regulations to guardrail anything. Ganesh makes the case for a "public option" for airlines to reinstate some competition as well as to discourage any future bailouts of the industry, as well as why he believes in that option more than re-regulating the industry entirely.

And in the Fun Half, Sam and Emma discuss congressional Republicans and presidential campaigners running away from Alabama's IVF decision, with Florida Rep. Byron Donalds ensuring that he supports IVF for the purpose of "breeding great families," as well as Trump spokesperson Karoline Leavitt refusing to answer whether Trump actually cares about IVF or not (she doesn't know). Exploring each point, Goldstein tackles the absurdity of each point within the broader operations of the US government, and the devastating impact the case could have on both the NLRB and the administrative state writ large. After discussing SpaceX’s attempt to keep this legal battle in Texas, Goldstein wraps up with Trader Joe’s similar case coming out of Connecticut, the threat IT poses to the NLRB, and what to expect moving forward. Dr. Tarek Loubani then joins, first parsing through his experience doing humanitarian and medical work in Gaza over the last decade, and touching on his experiences during Gaza’s Great March of Return in 2018, which saw thousands of Gazans shot during peaceful and civil demonstrations against their conditions, including Dr. Loubani himself. Then, she speaks with Richard Wiles, President of The Center for Climate Integrity (CCI), to discuss the recent report the CCI issued about the plastics industry. First, Emma runs through updates on the UN’s ceasefire vote, the ICJ’s hearings on Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine, the Knesset’s attempt to expel Ofer Cassif, the decimation of Gaza, the expansion of Israel’s war, Trump’s demanding lead over the GOP, Alabama’s Supreme Court decision to further clamp down on reproductive rights, and West Virginia’s criminalization of librarians, before watching some of the major public actions in Europe ahead of Julia Assange’s extradition trial. Bill Deere then joins, diving right into the history of UNRWA’s founding in the wake of the 1948 Nakba as a “temporary” service to aid Palestinian refugees, that has since taken on a breadth of responsibility to feed, educate, and medicare millions of refugees across Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, the West Bank, and Gaza in the 75 years since, working as a primary healthcare network, an education provider, and the primary humanitarian assistance provider, with little to no development towards an ends to their work. After touching on the overwhelming pressure that faces the 30k workers at UNRWA, Deere and Emma walk through the recent expansion of UNRWA activity in Gaza as Israel’s ethnic cleansing of the region has progressed, made all the more difficult by the devastating conditions and the active obstruction from Israeli demonstrators. Next, Bill briefly walks through the recent allegations of UNRWA involvement in 10/7, including Israel’s refusal to provide UNRWA with the actual proof, UNRWA’s decision to nonetheless fire those allegedly involved, and the international community’s revocation of funding in response, before touching on the devastating impact of that funding, and the ongoing attempts to keep UNRWA operating. Wrapping up, Deere explores the work UNRWA does with the Biden Administration, and what those of us outside of Government and NGOs can do to help. Richard Wiles then dives right into the myth of single-use plastic recycling and the recent revelations around the oil and gas industry’s multi-decade attempt to keep the plastics industry thriving at the expense of humanity. Wiles walks through the failure of the industry to push landfills and incineration as appropriate plastic disposal methods in the mid-1900s due to their obvious environmental impacts, looking to recycling as their answer – despite myriad internal studies that had shown it to be an expensive and wasteful process – presenting public demonstration project after public demonstration project alongside large sums of money to bring state and local governments on board with their bunk science. Wrapping up, Wiles and Emma explore the various legal battles going on in an attempt to hold the industry accountable for their societal harms, and what to expect from them moving forward. Emma also expands on the recent decision out of Alabama to categorize frozen embryos as children.

Next, Emma and Abdul tackle the rediscovery of Black intellectual history in the academic context through the creation of Black studies, bringing to light the incredible educational power of social movements – from Black Power and Civil Rights to New Communism and the Women’s Movement – to raise new questions about society and redefine how we thought about race, both domestically and internationally. After walking through his concepts of deficit, difference, and dependency that undergird racism in the US, Professor Alkalimat touches once again on how Black studies works to redefine, recontextualize, and challenge mainstream notions of US and global society, as well as the Black experience itself, before wrapping up the interview with the primary challenges facing the current era in the struggle for Black self-determination. Emma also watches recent statements from Lula da Silva on Israel's ongoing genocide in Gaza with the West's support.

After looking at the hypocrisy this creates – that of forcing women out of their families to take care of the children of the wealthier –   Premilla walks through the importance of supporting care work outside of the marketplace, and wraps up with a brief assessment of the role of social reproduction in care work. Hasan Ali then quickly runs through the political evolution of Imran Khan, from cricket star to military-backed Trumpian populist to politically imprisoned anti-military martyr, working up to the recent mass repression of Khan’s PTI party members ahead of Pakistan’s 2024 election, and the massive attempt by the military to steal the election out of PTI’s grasps. After running through Khan’s antagonistic relationship with the USA and CIA, Ali explores the intense backlash to the military’s attempt to steal the election, and what to expect heading forward if the PTI is truly able to come out as victors.

Steven Friedman then joins, parsing through the birth of his recent work from the severe backlash to anti-Zionist and anti-racist Jews as “self-hating,” alongside a severe perversion of the concept of anti-Semitism from the hatred of Jews as a people, to a narrow opposition to the apartheid state of Israel, also touching on the growing union between the state of Israel and the biggest celebrity symbols of anti-Semitism. Stepping back, Friedman explores the evolution of Zionism in relation to a largely Europe-based Jewry, with OG Zionists like Theodor Herzl and A.D. Gordon seeing the exclusion of the Jewish people from the European elite as a cultural failing of their people – one that can be solved via the establishment of a Zionist state and thus a Zionist elite. Expanding on this, Friedman walks Sam and Emma through Europe’s perspective on Zionism, with German and British elites highlighting the roles Israel could play in both acting as a European-aligned outpost in the Middle East and as a way to encourage the expulsion of Jews from Europe. Next, Steven back to the establishment of Israel as an attempt by certain people to Europeanize the Jewish people, through a complete embrace of Europe’s fashionable ideologies of nationalism and colonialism, particularly as Jewish discrimination in Europe largely excluded them from these developing regimes, and touches on the nature of the Holocaust as exemplary of the spectrum of humanity with which the West viewed the rest of the world. Wrapping up, Friedman, Sam, and Emma explore the history of the relationship between South Africa and Palestine and what the relationship between democracy and apartheid tells us about Western ideology.

After touching on the importance of both policy and institutional pressure to support continued medical practice in marginalized communities, Dr. Blackstock walks Emma through the greater context of racial discrimination in medicine beyond the socioeconomic, including the bias experienced interfacing with the healthcare system, and how the industry approaches issues that predominantly impact Black people and communities of color, before wrapping up with the particular impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Black communities. Ken Klippenstein then joins, briefly walking through the recent revelations to the US public of US troop activity in the Middle East, exploring why both the US and the host countries prefer to keep the presence low-key, and why that often results in the US public remaining unaware until personnel are killed. Stepping back, Ken walks Emma through the evolution of the Biden Administration’s transparency on military activity in the region – particularly in the wake of Israel’s siege on Gaza – the role the US is playing in expanding the conflict in Israel, and what to expect from this military presence moving forward.
