3134 - You Can't Trust GOP Leadership On Antitrust; Inhumanity In Texas w/ KJ Boyle

 

It's News Day Tuesday! Sam and Emma speak to KJ Boyle, research assistant at the Revolving Door Project, to discuss FTC Chair Lina Khan's appearance before the House Judiciary Committee last week. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on Donald Trump’s various ongoing (and approaching) trials, Alabama gerrymandering, labor action in UPS and Amazon, and fascist policy in Iowa and Texas, before diving into the absurd arguments around any criminal proceedings involving Trump, and the complete lack of a conspiracy cannon on the far right. KJ Boyle then dives right into the phenomenal job Lina Khan has done in completely upsetting the business establishment by… being anti-monopoly, walking through her nearly 70 features in WSJ OpEds, and how, exactly, she has gone about revamping the FTC. He, Sam, and Emma then look to her appearance before the HJC, discussing the major talking points the GOP has leveled against her, and the absurdity of a Meta-stock-owning ethics council claiming her interest in anti-trust maybe should recuse her from dealing with Meta. Wrapping up, they watch the highlights from Khan’s appearance, and why anti-trust is a winning topic moving forwards. Sam and Emma also dive into the recent reports coming out of Texas of Gov. Abbott’s order for the border patrol to begin drowning and dehydrating migrant children.

And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma watch Ron DeSantis do the classic Republican “your Medicare is safe… but not really” schtick, Kowalski from Nebraska gives an agriculture report and parses through some difficult tensions in yesterday’s NATO interview. Sam reflects on his own influence on the SAG strike, No Labels gets astonishingly exposed as a fraud, and Lydia from PA dives into her experiences with gender-affirming care at the VA. Mason from Alabama and Alan from North Carolina discuss their respective local politics, plus, your calls and IMs!
