The Majority Report with Sam Seder

It's Casual Friday! Sam & Emma react to the HUGE verdict out of New York: Donald Trump is a convicted felon. Then, they speak with Canadian-American journalist & writer Guy Lawson to discuss his upcoming book Hot Dog Money: Inside the Biggest Scandal in the History of College Sports. Then, they speak with Canadian-American journalist & writer Guy Lawson to discuss his upcoming book Hot Dog Money: Inside the Biggest Scandal in the History of College Sports.

After basking in some of the highlights from Trump’s conviction, Guy Lawson joins as he reflects on the classic threat of authoritarianism and why people always fall for this ever-reiterating ruse. Next, Lawson walks Sam and Emma through his latest work on the absolute exploitation racket that is NCAA sports, first touching on the recent tentative settlement between the institution and the student-athletes they have refused to pay for years, before diving head first into the story of Marty Blazer, and how he came to expose the massive network of bribery that underpinned the entire NCAA system, with only the kids ever getting blamed. Wrapping up, Guy assesses the NCAA’s future (and likely end), from anti-trust exemption to athlete compensation.

And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma reflect on Alan Dershowitz reflecting on Alan Dershowitz, parse through the highlights of the alt-right’s reactions to the Trump convictions, and bask in Jerry Seinfeld going full idiotic reactionary. They also assess why Biden isn’t putting a greater focus on Trump’s conviction and abortion, plus, your IM’s!

It's an EmMajority Report Thursday! Today she speaks with Dr. Eviane Leidig, postdoctoral fellow at the Tilburg University, to discuss her recent book The Women of the Far Right: Social Media Influencers and Online Radicalization. Then, she speaks with Kate Wagner, architecture critic at The Nation, to discuss her recent piece entitled "Luxury Brands Are Buying Our Cities."

First, Emma runs through updates on Israel’s seizure and closing of the Egypt-Gaza border, continuing backlash to Biden’s support for Israel, Trump’s legal woes and cabinet promises, NATO-Russia tensions, Alito’s corruption, Boeing safety problems, Hong Kong’s crackdown on pro-Democracy activists, elections in South Africa and Mexico, and India’s major heatwave, before diving deeper into the recent resignations from the Biden Administration, and touching on Trump rallying the cronies as his Hush Money trial reaches the jury deliberation phase. Dr. Eviane Leidig then joins, parsing through what makes the Alt-Right distinct from the generically xenophobic and white supremacist Republican Party, how they used the rise of Internet forums and social media to recruit the chronically online alienated youth, and the major roles played by Gamergate and January 6th in their rise and fall, respectively. Next, Dr. Leidig looks to the ecosystem of the women of the Alt-Right, and how their strategic presentation allows their fascist propaganda to largely float under the radar, tackling the common career trajectory that found many women commentators on the Alt-Right shifting to lifestyle-influencing in the wake of the January 6th collapse of the Alt-Right and the rise of COVID, presenting trad-wife-eque content for their largely-male audience and working alongside the Christian and Manosphere influencers under the banner of anti-feminism. After expanding on the central role anti-feminism plays in the Alt-Right’s current trajectory, Dr. Leidig wraps up by touching on the particulars of the Alt-Right’s recruitment of young women and the major role interpersonal intervention plays in escaping the pipeline. Kate Wagner then walks Emma through this ongoing problem of the corporate “Disney-fication” of our cities, with an increasing trend of corporations buying up entire neighborhoods for glorified (and extremely exclusive) publicity stunts. Tackling the examples of Bilbao’s Guggenheim and the Fondation Louis Vuitton, Wager explores how these monstrosities exploit loopholes to essentially get the public to pay for the enclosure of their commons, before she and Emma wrap up with the central role that Private Equity and commercial real estate have played in promoting this process.

And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Brandon Sutton and Matt Binder as they talk with Keister from Florida about the value of progressive infighting, watch Dave Rubin promote Hungary’s wildly homophobic regime, and listen to Rep. Moskowitz explain why justice for war crimes is a fantasy. They also cover the continuing arrests by Israeli police over social media engagement, Fiora from Minnesota on the importance of independent coverage of Palestine, and discuss electoral strategy come November, plus, your calls and IMs!

It’s Hump Day! Sam and Emma speak with Randall Eliason, white collar crime professor at George Washington University Law School and author of the Sidebars newsletter, to discuss the recent developments in all of Trump's criminal cases. First, they run through updates on Israel’s mass slaughter of civilians in Rafah, failing US aid to Gaza, the Texas GOP, Biden’s nomination for President, South African politics, Alito’s absurd alibi, and the future of the Clean Water Act, before watching John Kirby claim offense over an incredibly reasonable question that happens to acknowledge the horrors occurring in Gaza. Professor Randall Eliason then joins, as he dives right into a summary of the central arguments on either side of Trump’s ongoing hush money case, parsing particularly through Trump’s Defense’s decision to step away from the incredibly viable route of undermining the “proof of intent” in Trump’s payments to Michael Cohen, instead going all in on the Trumpian route of character assassinations against Stormy Daniels and Cohen, and relying on claims that these were legitimate legal expenses (they weren’t). Next, Professor Eliason explores the concept of the broader fraud arguments Alvin Bragg’s prosecution could have used against Donald Trump, before wrapping up their Hush Money conversation by assessing the impact of a hung jury on the future of the case. Randall then looks to Trump’s January 6th case, and Jack Smith’s special council indictment as the second most likely case to be heard before November, and tackles Judge Aileen Cannon’s successful attempts to slow-walk the “Stolen Documents” case in Florida, before wrapping up the interview with the Supreme Court’s role in Trump’s various legal woes, and whether the recent charges against Alito will have any impact on the Court. Sam and Emma also examine the major holes in Justice Alito’s recent attempt to shirk responsibility for hoisting various blatantly anti-Democratic and conspiratorial flags at his house.

And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma watch Donald Trump Jr. call out notorious grifter… Robert De Niro? walk through major issues around polling and turnout as November’s presidential election draws near, and parse through Tim Pool’s warning to teenage women that if they don’t try to fuck him, they’ll be single forever. They also dive into Samuel Alito’s refusal to recuse himself from the Trump case in the wake of the Justice’s January 6th flag waving, American Airlines’ stunning display of racial discrimination, and RFK’s claim that US history, in the context of confederate statues, should be celebrated and protected. Seinfeld goes full latte liberal (or a frappé fascist perhaps), plus, your calls and IMs!

It’s News Day Tuesday and the MR Crew is back from the long weekend! But first they speak with Luke Goldstein, writing fellow at The American Prospect, to discuss his recent reporting on Red Lobster’s bankruptcy & the DOJ filing a lawsuit against LiveNation. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on Israel’s military cruising past Biden’s Rafah red-line with no repercussions, revelations around Israel’s decade-long war against the ICC, obstacles to international aid to Gaza, Trump’s struggles with law and libertarians, the UAW’s Mercedes push, WaPo’s burying of Sam Alito’s conspiracy-brain, US internet infrastructure, labor action, and pandemic preparedness, before watching Human Rights Watch founder Aryeh Neier charging Israel with genocide. Luke Goldstein then joins, diving right into the ongoing DOJ attempt to break up the gauging god that is LiveNation, touching on the myriad recent events that have pushed LiveNation’s monopoly to the fore before walking through the long process by which they went from a mere concert promotion platform to a major controller of every step of the concert going process before you enter the venue, featuring a merge with Ticketmaster sponsored by the Obama Administration’s Rahm Emmanuel. Next, Goldstein looks to the recent bankruptcy of Red Lobster, and the Private Equity rig job behind both the financial collapse and the lies about why it happened, first walking through the supposed “endless shrimp” fiasco that (very much didn’t) lead to Red Lobster’s turmoil, before tackling the much-less entertaining reality of Golden Gate Capital buying up the company, selling all of their land to recoup their costs, and immediately signing onto outrageously priced permanent leases. Sam and Emma also touch on Rashida Tlaib’s incredible condemnation of Joe Biden’s support for Israel’s genocide, and watch British Commentator James Whale (not a fictional stereotype, we swear) completely his unabashed shamelessness in the face of a pro-Palestinian Black woman.

Ad in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma watch Trump’s lawyer Alina Habba on why it’s unfair that jurors are allowed to listen to news, Rep. Crocket dissects the corrupt GOP control of the federal judiciary and the inaction of the Democratic-led Senate Judiciary Committee that led to it, and RFK tactfully discusses the horrors of institutionalized slavery, like mask mandates. The Good Liars stir some conflict at the Libertarian National Convention as Donald Trump makes a controversial appearance, which provides many other highlights, Thomas from Central Ohio reconnects with Emma, Tom from Virginia grapples with our electoral choices come November, and Nikki Haley shows of her Zionist bona fides, plus, your calls and IMs!

It’s Casual Friday! Sam and Emma speak with Jeet Heer, national affairs correspondent for The Nation, to round up the week in news. First, they run through updates on the ICJ’s order to halt Israel’s invasion of Rafah (and Israel’s subsequent escalation), South Carolina’s congressional maps, Ukraine aid, UC workers strikes, the powerlessness of Democratic Senators, Louisiana’s abortion pill bill, and Ohio’s presidential ballot, before parsing through Trump’s overwhelming popularity, at least according to his discussion of crowd sizes and his VP choices. Jeet Heer then joins, jumping right into the incredibly telling rhetoric around the Zionist backlash to The Hague issuing arrest warrants for various Israeli and Hamas leaders, attempting to present International Law as something exclusively for disciplining the global south, particularly in the wake of Biden’s election under the pretense of restoring the international rules-based order. Expanding on this, Heer, Sam, and Emma explore how Biden’s extreme conservatism on Israel policy has essentially meant a complete continuation of Donald Trump’s foreign policy regime in the region, with recent threats against The Hague and the World Food Project laying bare these fascist inclinations. After assessing the long-term implications of Biden’s making his extreme foreign policy the center of his reelection battle (whether he likes it or not), Jeet, Sam, and Emma wrap up by dreaming of Democratic Leadership that isn’t absolutely petrified of holding Republicans to account.

And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma watch a righteous Harvard Grad student use his commencement speech to speak out against the institutional support for Israel’s genocidal campaign, discuss the incredible pressure from the country’s zionist elite on major public, private, and federal institutions, and listen to Alan Dershowitz’s candid opinion on Jewish studies professors. They also discuss the central role Cop City continues to play in Atlanta politics, Mike Johnson’s anti-migrant fear-mongering, and dive deep into the Daily Wire’s childish ideology, plus, your calls and IMs!

It’s an EmMajority Report Thursday! She speaks with Daniel J. Galvin, professor of political science at Northwestern University, to discuss his recent book Alt-Labor and the New Politics of Workers’ Rights. Then, she's joined by Richard Beck, senior writer at n+1 Magazine, to discuss his recent piece in the New Left Review entitled "Bidenism Abroad." First, Emma runs through updates on Nikki Haley’s endorsement of Donald Trump, Israel’s continued victimization in the face of committing genocide, US support for Israel, Senate politics, Justice Alito, Anti-trust action, UK elections, and more, before parsing through Fox News’ coverage of the FBI’s capacity to USE DEADLY FORCE AGAINST DONALD TRUMP, per typical procedure. Professor Daniel Galvin then joins, first contextualizing what these “alternative labor” organizations are, with networks like worker centers, community organizations, and regional alliances providing particularly vulnerable workers in the vast, unionized sectors of the US economy an avenue for workplace and labor justice, be it wage theft, discrimination, sexual harassment, or labor conditions, though generally focusing on rectifying wrongs that have already occurred. Expanding on this, Professor Galvin explores how these organizations have begun shifting to a more proactive approach, advocating for state and local employment and labor policy to chip away at the severe power imbalance in the US economy, finding success in bluer districts and states, while meeting much more institutional (and financial) opposition elsewhere. After walking through the slow and steady undermining of FDR’s New Deal system of labor protections after the Second World War, and the shift away from collective bargaining to minimal employment protections, Galvin wraps up by assessing the devastating impact employer exploitation like wage theft actually has on the US economy, resulting in billions taken from the lowest-wage workers. Richard Beck and Emma then reflect on Biden’s Foreign Policy platform on the campaign trail, centering a “foreign policy for the middle class” and a narrative of “Democracies versus Autocracies,” which particularly worked with his early policies of support for Ukraine and withdrawal from Afghanistan, respectively, and look to the main individuals – Anthony Blinken and Jake Sullivan – responsible for shaping this platform. After expanding on the evolution of Biden’s foreign policy during his first few years in office, Richard and Emma begin to explore how October 7th (and Israel’s following ethnic cleansing of Gaza) completely upended these commitments, laying bare the failures of the autocracy-democracy binary, and reinserting the US into an expensive quagmire in the Middle East, all while relying on the policies bequeathed unto him by Donald Trump’s far-right administration. Next, Beck looks to the parallels in Biden’s approach to China, continuing the economic warfare established under Trump with major EV tariffs and an ongoing attempt at a TikTok Ban, before exploring the increasingly precarious status of US hegemony over the last few decades, and wrapping up by assessing the future of Biden’s inactive and defensive leadership as the 2024 election draws near.

And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Brandon Sutton and Matt Binder as they highlight a new EmMajority Report intro song, Sam’s evolution into a cruiser (as in… the ships), and talk with Sky from Florida about the ideologies behind hating student debt-forgiveness. A Syrian Student from Germany dives into the response to the ICC’s arrest warrant for Netanyahu, Mehdi Hasan and Ilan Pappé have an enlightening conversation on the future of Palestine and Israel, and Tulsi Gabbard doubles down on both her anti- and pro-war stances. Will from Portland discusses his father’s relationship to the Daily Wire, and Nikki Haley falls in line with Donald Trump, plus, your calls and IMs!

It's Hump Day! Sam speaks with Sarah Jaffe, fellow at the Type Media Center  based in New Orleans, to discuss her recent piece for In These Times entitled “In Tough Loss, the High-Profile UAW Campaign at Mercedes-Benz in Alabama Falls Short.” Then, Sam checks in on some news stories he’s been interested in! First, he runs through updates on the trickling of recognition for a Palestinian state from European nations, Biden’s all-out assault on the International Rules-Based Order as he and the GOP begin work on sanctioning The Hague, yesterday’s major primaries, the US economy, abortion politics, student loans, the occupation of Haiti, and unionization, before parsing through Trump’s continuing double-talk about abortion regulation, and Biden’s horrid choice to go after the ICC. Sarah Jaffe then walks Sam through the numbers coming out of the failed unionization vote at Mercedes’ Alabama plant, before painting a picture of Mercedes’ standard union-busting effort, and the role of the South’s anti-union culture in keeping the organizers just a few hundred votes short. Expanding on this, Jaffe touches on the ongoing national union renaissance, and how it has (however minimally) impacted the South, before stepping back to assess where the organizing effort failed – namely in failing to inoculate the workforce to the myths union-busters rely on – and the plant-specific factors that prohibited a greater organizing effort. After they wrap up the interview by looking at the major lessons to take from this loss, Sam dives deep into the sentencing of Charles Littlejohn, and how the state’s protection of the wealth of the Uber-elite has defined the US’ economic failure coming out of the Great Compression.

And in the Fun half: John from San Antonio about progressives’ tough losses in California and Oregon, the central role AIPAC and other Israel-affiliated PACs played in bolstering conservative challengers, and how to move forward in the push for progressive victories. Brandon from the Ozark discusses White Rural Rage, Jesse Watters and Janine Pirro discuss the horrors of undercover police raids (when they’re on Donald Trump), and Sam parses through the Chief Actuary of Social Security’s recent report on the myths about Social Security (it’s riveting). Kyle from Brooklyn explores Germany’s new supply chain law, Joe from Connecticut tackles the role of religion in Israel’s apartheid state, and Charlie Kirk predicts plan–demic II, plus, your calls and IMs!

It's News Day Tuesday! Sam and Emma break down the biggest headlines of the day. But first, they speak with Mark Joseph Stern, senior writer at Slate, to discuss some of the recent developments at the Supreme Court. First, they run through updates on Biden’s criticism of the ICC’s Israeli arrest warrants (as well as the important ICC support coming out of Europe), the aid that still hasn’t gotten to Gaza, Israel’s regime of repression, today’s US primaries, California’s special election, Nevada’s abortion referendum, Truth Social, and the FBI’s Eric Adams investigation, before parsing through the initial reporting on the ICC’s arrest warrants for Israeli and Hamas officials. Mark Joseph Stern then joins, diving right into the impending milestone of the Biden Administration’s 200th successful federal judicial nomination, and the importance of moving away from the corporate judges of the Obama Administration, towards candidates that will have greater longevity in the system. Next, Mark, Sam, and Emma shift to the ongoing legal attack on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, as the US Right followed the initial Supreme Court undercutting of it in 2020 with an audacious plan to make the entire Bureau (and many other major federal agencies) unconstitutional due to their funding coming from the Federal Reserve, walking through why the Right can funnel even the most absurd legal cases through the court of appeals due to the insane biases of the 5th Circuit and single-judge divisions killing random assignment, even if (as in this case) it has no chance at the Supreme Court. Expanding on this, Stern parses through how the 5th Circuit serves as an “audition” spot for future conservative Supreme Court justices, before looking to Louisiana’s conservative judges’ active attempt to undercut the restructuring of Louisiana’s congressional districts, and why the Supreme Court is holding firm on not allowing major changes (like this reversion) in the months before an election. Wrapping up, Mark, Sam, and Emma tackle the continuing revelations around the Court’s major corruption – from judicial support of January 6th to shady financial ties – and what Congress can do to push back

And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma discuss the few Israelis standing up to the IDF and Israeli thugs attacking aid due for Gaza, Byron Donalds calls for drug testing Biden, and Holland from Phoenix dives into border fear-mongering. Tim from Connecticut asks about Israel’s plan for Gaza, Elise Stefanik calls out Fox for using propaganda that came straight from her own mouth, and Rudy Giuliani starts slinging mud. Brittany from Montreal helps round out the show with an incredible (and incredibly disturbing) discovery from the depths of Seinfeld’s career, plus, your calls and IMs!

Happy Monday! Sam and Emma speak with Tracie McMillan, editor at Capitol & Main covering worker organizing, to discuss her recent book The White Bonus: Five Families and the Cash Value of Racism in America.  First, Sam and Emma run through updates on Benny Gantz’s split with Netanyahu over Israel’s war strategy, the death of multiple Iranian officials, Julian Assange’s right to appeal extradition, Michael Cohen’s testimony, Justice Alito’s partisanship, gun control in the US, Giuliani’s legal woes, and Disneyland unionization, before parsing through the ICC’s recent issuing of warrants for various Israeli and Hamas leaders and officials, such as Bibi Netanyahu and Yahya Sinwar. Tracie McMillan then joins, as she dives right into this idea of a “White bonus,” and how centuries of institutionalized White Supremacy in the US – even if largely reformed today – created lasting biases that privilege White folks without explicit (or socially-recognized) benefits based on race. After stepping back to explore how her personal experience exposed her to these concepts, seeing the benefit of the doubt she, as a White woman, was consistently given in an employment context, McMillan, Sam, and Emma explore where these “submerged” benefits lie, such as the tax breaks and employment opportunities offered to middle and upper-class families that have privileged from generations of White Supremacy, and how they shone through even in McMillan’s non-elite upbringing. Next, McMillan walks us through the examples she uses in her work, tackling how the ingrained “white bonus” of society helped bolster the upbringing of various middle-class Mississippi white kids, providing them pathways to social mobility and rescuing them from the trappings of the carceral state in ways Black kids would not be privy to, before wrapping up by reflecting on the need to emphasize widespread solidarity in the battle for material rectification, particularly in the US where racism continues to be a central inhibitor to social programs.

And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma watch a dissociative and pained Biden applaud a call for a permanent ceasefire at Morehouse’s graduation, discuss the facade of the 2-state solution that Biden (and many others) use to defend Israel’s apartheid regime, and unpack Israel’s ongoing attacks on aid trucks by citizens and settlers. Rudy Giuliani gets a surprise 80th birthday gift, AIPAC is NOT sending their best, and Donald Trump continues his 8-year tradition of crowd-size compensation. Anchorage’s right-wing candidate for Mayor tackles the problem of “woke,” as his opponent explores pointless policies around infrastructure and corruption, and Mike Lindell and Steve Bannon take on Minnesota’s new Sharia state flag.

It's Casual Friday! Sam speaks with Heather Digby Parton, contributing writer at Salon.com and proprietor of the blog Hullabaloo, to round up the week in news. Then, he's joined by Matthew Film Guy! First, Sam runs through updates on South Africa’s emergency ICJ injunction to stop Israel’s assault on Rafah, aid to Israel and Gaza, Trump’s legal woes, North Carolina’s bipartisan mask ban, Gov Abbott’s pardoning the murderer of a BLM protester, DOJ’s plan for weed, DeSantis’ institutionalized climate denial, and continuing student activism on college campuses (this from Bard), before watching MTG get repeatedly put in her place on the House floor. Digby then joins, as she and Sam dive into the GOP’s heartwarming display of unity (down to the suit), as they leave their responsibilities behind to show up in support of the ever-marginalized Donald Trump, before unpacking the (un)likelihood of any real criminal accountability for Trump in this (or any) legal case. Next, they look to Biden’s ongoing “popularity” struggles, parsing through his upcoming appearance at Morehouse’s commencement, and unpacking why he refuses to more actively target the overwhelmingly unproductive and unpopular House GOP, wrapping up with an assessment of his campaign as his poll numbers continue to dwindle. Matthew Film Guy then joins, as he beefs with Sam over aesthetics, soft launches his upcoming project (and continuing film class), and recommends Terence Davies’ “The Long Day Closes.”

And in the Fun Half: Sam parses through Jimmy Carter’s unflinching criticism of Israel’s apartheid state, Lauren Boebert calls for more “cognitive dissonance” tests on Joe Biden, and Paul Bet David and Tim Pool beef over – get this – interview travel plans, plus, your IMs!

It’s an EmMajority Report Thursday! She speaks with Regina Kunzel, professor of history and women's, gender, and sexuality studies at Yale University, to discuss her recent book In the Shadow of Diagnosis: Psychiatric Power and Queer Life. Then, she speaks with Beshara Doumani, professor of Palestinian studies at Brown University, to discuss the 76th anniversary of the Nakba. First, Emma runs through updates on South Africa’s ICJ appeal to stop Israel’s Rafah invasion, growing public dissent from Biden allies to his support of Israel’s genocide, the US’ detainment of an anti-zionist Israeli academic, Bob Menendez’s genius legal tactic, the assassination attempt on Slovakia’s Prime Minister, Trump’s legal woes, Argentinian homophobic hate crimes, and Louisiana gerrymandering, before watching CNN try to save face on their coverage of the violence against student protesters. Professor Regina Kunzel then dives right into the history of the psychiatric industry, from its roots as a custodial care industry (asylums, etc) in the 19th Century, through its slow battle for professional legitimacy over the first half of the 1900s, exploring how this push for legitimacy saw the industry lay claim to a wide range of “problems in living” such as anxiety, depression, and (importantly) homosexuality and gender nonconformity. Expanding on this, Professor Kunzel tackles the presentation of queerness as a “treatable” mental disorder, one that would eventually be codified as a personality disorder (alongside pedophilia and sadism) with the introduction of the DSM in 1952, before stepping back to look at the role World War II, and more specifically the emphasis on mental health screenings, had in giving state-backed legitimacy to the psychiatric industry writ large, and in its particular pathologization of queer identity. After looking at the central role de-pathologizing homosexuality played in the gay rights movement of the 1970s, and the side-effect of gender “deviance” taking a back seat to homosexuality, Professor Kunzel wraps up with the re-emergence of the medical and psychiatric attack on queer identity with the mainstreaming of transphobic politics over the last decade. Professor Beshara Doumani then joins, walking through the 76 years of Palestinian oppression and ethnic cleansing since the 1948 Nakba, with the original event seeing the expulsion of over 80% of Palestinians from their homes, the end of the Palestinian state (and Palestinian society), and the creation of the State of Israel in the vacuum left by British colonial rule. Continuing the conversation, Professor Doumani contextualizes the central role the Nakba plays in Palestinian trauma and oppression to this day, exacerbated and brought to the fore with the following “earthquakes” of the 1967 Six-Day War, which saw hundreds of thousands more Palestinians ethnically cleansed, and the Oslo Accords complete isolation of Palestinians between the river and the sea. After diving deeper into the particular failure of the 2-state “solution,” Professor Doumani walks Emma through the specific repression he’s faced as a Palestinian academic, and the tremendous increase it has seen in the wake of October 7th.

And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Brandon Sutton and Matt Binder as they watch British bigot Mike Graham boot Arab-Israeli Jew Avi Shlaim from his program for being honest about Israeli apartheid. Alec from Western New York explores the evolution of his perspective on anti-zionism, Mike in Denver on the second coming of meme-stock, and Bumble creator discusses the alienating future of AI-infused dating. Plus, your calls and IMs!

It's Hump Day! Sam speaks with writer and labor organizer Mindy Isser to discuss her recent piece in In These Times entitled "In Labor’s Mission to Organize the South, Another Domino Could Soon Fall." Then, he speaks with Anna Clark, reporter at ProPublica covering issues in the MidWest, to discuss her recent reporting on the Flint water crisis, 10 years later. First, Sam runs through updates on Biden’s continuing arms sales to Israel, Israel's goal of settling the Gaza Strip, Michael Cohen’s star turn, US inflation rates, climate change, Maryland’s primaries, Trump’s corruption, Rudy Giuliani, suits against major corporations, and the 2024 Presidential Debates, also diving into appearances from Vivek Ramaswamy and Mike Johnson at the Trump Trials, featuring some live translation during the latter’s speech. Mindy Isser then jumps right into the South’s long history of anti-union sentiment and politics, looking at the statistics behind the South’s union dearth, and the major driving forces of racism and anti-communism that have shaped the elite-driven attack on organized labor from the Congress of Industrial Organizations’ (CIO) “Operation Dixie” in the 1940s through the UAW’s ongoing expansion attempt today. After expanding on the role race has played in the recent union-busting attempts at the Vance, Alabama Mercedes plan, Sam and Mindy discuss the recent NLRB ruling that established a system card check lite, and how southern politicians are pushing back against it, before parsing more specifically through what the UAW’s success organizing the Chattanooga VW plant meant for a union renaissance in the South, and the hope that remains strong heading into the Vance Mercedes plant vote tally. Next, Anna Clark joins, first walking through the now infamous story of Flint, Michigan’s water crisis, which began one decade ago this spring with the horrendously executed switch off of Detroit’s Lake Huron water supply, followed by a tremendous display and unaccountability and incompetence from the political leadership of Flint appointed by Governor Snyder. After expanding on the devastating health effects faced by the consumers of Flint’s toxic water supply (including a two-year outbreak of legionnaires disease), and the lack of transparency in the face of crisis, Clark looks to the attempts at finding justice for the people of Flint, tackling the state of an ongoing class action lawsuit before wrapping up with the failure of various criminal proceedings, and how Flint is still holding out hope for accountability.

And in the Fun Half: Sam talks with Kowalski from Nebraska about getting more votes in a 2024 Nebraska Republican primary than Nikki Haley, and why his stance on immigration (among others) worked in his (albeit brief) campaign, Marjorie Taylor Greene’s beef with Mike Johnson continues to stew, and Charlie from the North East has an expansive conversation on gun control. The Biden Administration continues their genocide denial, Tim from Boston has a podcast rec, and Eric Adams has a totally-not-racist idea to solve NYC’s lifeguard shortage. Sam from Baltimore discusses his perspective on Maryland’s David Trone, and Ronald Raygun challenges Sam on the wokification of comedy. Jordan Peterson continues to be a shameless well of content, plus, your calls and IMs!

First, they're joined by Mohamed Aldaghma, who still has family in Gaza after the Rafah crossing was closed, to discuss some recent developments with them and what the state of affairs is on the ground in Gaza. They also speak with David Dayen, executive editor at The American Prospect, to discuss some of his recent reporting on the Biden administration's industrial policy. First, they run through updates on the mass cleansing of Gaza, Israel’s unlikely victory conditions, today’s West Virginia and Maryland primaries, Louisiana’s abortion ban, Michael Cohen’s testimony, Biden’s poor polling, and Steve Bannon’s legal woes, also listening to Tommy Tuberville’s pleas to end the mental anguish facing Trump in the courtroom. Mohammad Aldaghma then joins from Belgium as he updates MR on his family’s safe evacuation from Gaza to Egypt, the serious medical issues still facing them, and the state of his close family – including father, siblings, and more – still in Khan Younis. After briefly touching on the perception in Gaza of the central role the US has played in maintaining this war, and the inspiration they are finding in the news of growing domestic dissent, Aldaghma wraps up with the continuing effort to get his family to safety, and how the MR audience can help. David Dayen then joins, as he walks Sam and Emma through Biden’s recently announced tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles (and various production elements), the overwhelming success of the Chinese EV industry, and why the US so fears the introduction of the Chinese product to the US market (they’re cheaper and better). Expanding on this, David dives into the context of these tariffs on the US market, drawing an analogue to US regulations on Japanese cars in the 1980s as he explores how these tariffs alongside bolstered EPA and EV requirements for US auto manufacturers serve to give the US market space (and incentive) to catch up, before wrapping up by exploring the role the Big Three (Ford, GM, Stellantis) play in EV production, and what a domestic production chain would mean for cheaper products.

And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma continue their conversation with David Dayen as he helps them parse through Biden’s new industrial policy with the recent reboot to the U.S. grid system, and parse through some highlights from Maryland’s primary races, including David Trone’s attempt to use a background of poverty and alcoholism to appeal to black voters, and the “sudden” influx of AIPAC money to Sarah Elfreth after her opponent started discussing dark money in politics. They also bask in Bill Burr’s passive takedown of Bill Maher’s absurd ego, and watch Vivek Ramaswamy attempt to defend his recent White Supremacist cucking at the hands of Ann Coulter, plus, your calls and IMs!

Happy Monday! Sam & Emma host Teresa Ghilarducci, director of the Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis (SCEPA) at The New School, to discuss her recent book Work, Retire, Repeat: The Uncertainty of Retirement in the New Economy. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on the State Department’s Leahy Law report, the contradictory evacuation orders coming out of Gaza, internal dissent in the Biden Administration, Trump-Biden polling, Trump’s legal woes, Katie Britt, labor action, and Nancy Mace, also diving into the Biden Administration’s changing position on Israel’s war. Teresa Ghilarducci then joins, diving right into the recent report on Social Security trust’s longevity, and unpacking the myths of the US’ supposed “retirement crisis,” before exploring why the incredible low-end wage growth and robust employment of the post-2020 US economy has proven to be the best formula for funding any retirement system. Next, Ghilarducci steps back as she, Sam, and Emma walk through the primary issue facing Social Security’s funding: the $168k income cap. Teresa parses through how this cap cuts off vast quantities of income in the US from the reaches of Social Security, with folks like Elon Musk covering their yearly payment before January 1st is half over, the additional source of income of capital gains revenue that remains untouched by Social Security, and the minimal impact that eliminating either of these restrictions would have on economic activity. After an extensive conversation on the shift in US retirement from defined benefit plans to defined contribution plans, how that change shifted the risk on the shoulders of the employees, and why employers have such a drastically better capacity to handle said risk, Ghilarducci tackles the false narrative around the state of retirement age and labor in the US, and wraps up with the central elements of her “Grey New Deal” plan to reaffirm the value of the US labor force.

And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma discuss the gaping Candace Owens-sized hole in the Daily Wire’s newest production, Lindsay Graham discusses nuking Gaza, and watch a Zionist Joe Scarborough get put in his place by his father-in-law over the Oslo Accords. They also watch Kowalski from Nebraska discuss his Senate campaign live on KETV, tackle Trump’s return to his roots (lying about his crowd size), and listen to Tim Pool discuss the negatives (calls the Bible antisemitic) and positives (calls the Quran antisemitic) of the US’ new Antisemitism bill, plus, your calls and IMs!

It's Casual Friday! Sam and Emma speak with Ryan Grim, D.C. Bureau Chief at The Intercept and co-host of Counter Points, to round up the week in news. First, Sam and Emma react to some of the new developments in Trump's hush money trial, including the appearance of...someone different to advocate for Trump outside the courthouse: Florida Sen. Rick Scott. The MR Crew, and reporters speaking to Sen. Scott, speculate that, due to Trump's gag order, Trump may be calling in some surrogates who are less...inhibited than Trump is at the moment. Then, after not being able to figure out his laptop, Ryan Grim joins the program by phone, and he, Sam, and Emma start off by recapping the calamitous end of Kristi Noem's book tour, with the last stop on Stuart Varney's Fox Business show looking like the breaking point. They then discuss how AIPAC has been slightly neutralized in the election cycle this year, and, per Ryan's reporting and analysis, the fear some in the organization are feeling that they don't possess the same sway over Biden given his decision to withhold some aid to Israel over the prospect of a Rafah invasion, AND that they haven't been as impactful or decisive in Democratic primaries, specifically against Squad members. Ryan outlines some of the equivocating that Bidenworld has done after Biden's comments on withholding aid, and Grim zeroes in on the cleavage between the Biden administration officials responsible for military and intelligence actions (Defense Secretary Austin & CIA Director Burns) who are in negotiations with Israel & Palestine, compared to that of the diplomatic and political actors (Secretary of State Blinken & Biden's Chief of Staff Jeff Zients) who have been much more deferential both publicly and privately towards Israel. They then discuss the terrible implications for the U.S., Palestinians, and even Israeli soldiers in terms of casualties and damage if a large scale ground invasion of Rafah occurs, and how, even if Biden and Netanyahu may understand those implications, they may be too involved ideologically to try and put a real stop to it. Grim then updates Sam and Emma on some of the other AIPAC machinations going on, including their infusion in an Oregon congressional primary to stop Rep. Pramila Jayapal's sister, Susheela, from winning. They then finally discuss what political implications this may have for President Biden in November, and how, if voters who would actually be championing Biden (activists, politically engaged young voters) weren't so disgusted with Biden's conduct in Israel, they'd be endorsing and highlighting some serious policy victories that Biden's engaged in (banning natural gas export terminals, for example). Instead, the connotation with Biden due to his support of Israel is inevitably clouded for some in his key voter bases.

And in the Fun Half, Sam, Emma, and Bradley react to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu speaking with Dr. Phil in Jerusalem (???) about how Israel will fight even with his fingernails if they have (and, Netanyahu qualifies, that they do have more to fight with than fingernails. Thanks for clarifying!) Afterwards, they take a look at Israel's UN representative, Gilad Erdan, getting in some prop work at the General Assembly meeting, claiming that the body is shredding its charter by admitting Palestine into the body further with more privileges (he literally shredded a tiny copy of the UN charter.) They then react to some of the right wing fearmongering over anti-Semitism (something they've always really cared about, seemingly), with Florida Rep. Aaron Bean warning a House subcommittee that...2nd graders are trafficking in Nazi propaganda. Then the MR Crew gets through the jump scare of watching Katie Britt talk (hasn't gotten over the State of the Union response cadence, seemingly) about Jewish college students being treated like civil rights activists in the 1960's, Trump's appeal to Jewish voters outside the courthouse (they should be ashamed of themselves if they've supported Biden), as well as Trump being totally normal and not concerned about RFK siphoning votes away from him. He just needed to make a 4+ minute long video about how he's more anti-vax than RFK is. He's not worried! Plus, your calls & IM's!

It’s an EmMajority Report Thursday! It’s an EmMajority Report Thursday! She speaks with Rachel Nolan, historian of Latin America at Boston University’s Pardee School of Global Studies, to discuss her recent book Until I Find You: Disappeared Children and Coercive Adoptions in Guatemala. Then, she speaks with Raga Makawi, editor at African Arguments, to discuss the ongoing conflict in Sudan. First, Emma discusses President Biden's recent CNN interview with Erin Burnett, where he makes the claim that he'd withhold aid to Israel if a full-scale invasion into Rafah occurs. This led to some predictably normal responses from Prime Minister Netanyahu reposting a video of himself speaking about Israel acting alone if it needs to, and National Security Minister Ben-Gvir tweeting out that Hamas loves Biden. Rachel Nolan then joins the program to discuss her book on the crisis of the disappeared children in Guatemala, and how little media coverage and understanding is attached to this subject. All of this in the backdrop of a severe and violent sectarian conflict within the country, which led to the conditions from which disappearances and the for-profit adoption boom out of Central and South America began to increase and expand. Rachel dives into the number of organizations that have participated in the adoption racket out of Guatemala, the erasure of birth parents stories when it comes to understanding the "adoption triad" (birth parents, adoptee, & adopted parents), the idea of the "white savior" complex and how that intersects with these types of adoptions/dismissals of indigenous communities both domestically in the U.S. and abroad, as well as how, if at all, Trump's family separation policies impacted this industry. Raga Makawi then joins the program to provide some additional context to the ongoing conflict in Sudan, which has now surpassed a year of fighting. Raga outlines the central players, including the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the Sudanese government and military, and how both sides staked their positions in the conflict not only over the past year, but stemming back to the 2018 revolution as well as the 2004 conflict in Darfur. Raga also emphasizes the serious famine concerns in the area as a result of this conflict, who some other external players are geopolitically (Iran, as an example), how economic extraction and plunder from outside forces factor into the conflict itself, and what Western audiences don't understand about the conflict due to lack of media coverage/literacy on the issues germane to the situation.

And in the Fun Half, Emma, Matt Binder, Brandon Sutton, & the entire MR Crew react to Likud Knesset member Tali Gottlieb melting down over Biden's pledge to not provide aid to Israel if their forces invade Rafah, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene taking on the "uniparty" by filing the motion to vacate against Speaker Johnson, "social entrepreneur" Chris Pan's cringeworthy BitCoin-themed commencement address/magic show at Ohio State University, Elise Stefanik attempting another witchhunt in a congressional subcommittee hearing, this time directed at the Chancellor of New York City Public Schools, and the inevitable Vivek Ramaswamy-Ann Coulter meeting of the minds on Vivek's "TRUTH" podcast, where...Ann Coulter tells him she couldn't vote for him for President because he's Indian (Vivek appreciated the candor!). Plus, your calls & IM's!

It's Hump Day! Sam and Emma speak with David Bacon, journalist and photographer focusing on labor issues, to discuss his recent piece in the Nation entitled "Big Ag’s Latest Blow to Workers' Rights." Then, they speak with 2 members of the Princeton University Gaza Solidarity Encampment, who are currently on a hunger strike in opposition to Israel's offensive in Gaza. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on US arms shipments to Israel, Biden’s Leahy Law report, the House GOP’s threat to the ICC, Trump’s legal woes, the global wave of pro-Palestinian student activism, climate change, Utah’s anti-trans tip line, and Robert Kennedy Jr’s brain worms, before parsing through Fox News’ odd yet unsurprising take on Stormy Daniel’s testimony. David Bacon then joins, diving right into California’s AB-2183, an agricultural labor law bolstering workers’ right to unionize with an effective card check system, contextualizing it within the ongoing labor renaissance in the US alongside a renewed NLRB, and the important role laws like this (and similar ones as seen in New York) play in restoring the balance in labor relations. Bacon then walks Sam and Emma through the ongoing legal battle against the constitutionality of AB-2183, first exploring the disputed United Farm Workers Union election that pushed the Wonderful Company’s case, before looking into the simultaneous dubious nature of the case and unfortunate likelihood that an eventual Supreme Court decision could still result in the overturning of the law (or worse). Wrapping up, David tackles the immense resources behind the Wonderful Company’s campaign, and California’s major role in shaping national labor relations. Next, David and Rosangela join from Princeton’s Gaza Solidarity Encampment, as they parse through the intense and severe administrative backlash to campus anti-war and pro-divestment activism that pushed them and other activists to a hunger strike, before taking Sam and Emma through the list of demands the activists are presenting the school, including financial transparency, relations to Israeli and Palestinian institutions, and dropping legal charges against student activists. After expanding on the school administration’s consistent bad-faith treatment of the student activists, David and Rosangela walk through the incredible support both the encampment and hunger strike have gotten from the local and University communities, and how organizers have managed to keep the message on track as administrators continue to misrepresent their effort.

And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma watch a very Harvard protest, unpack Biden’s recent claim that Hamas is acting on an “ancient desire” to kill Jews, and talk with Mitch Folay in NC about the recent expansion of Jewish Voice for Peace to Charlotte and the administrative backlash to anti-war protests at UNC. Piers Morgan remembers how to do journalism, Obi from Ashville explores using fiscal policy to expand access to housing, and Chris from New York asks about pulling a friend out of the Q Anon rabbit hole. Tim Pool continues to struggle with both genocide-grifting and self-confidence, and Steve Bannon grapples with Trump reaffirming his support for Mike Johnson, plus, your calls and IM!

It's News Day Tuesday! Sam and Emma break down the biggest headlines of the day. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on Israel’s advance on Rafah in the wake of Hamas accepting a ceasefire deal proposed by the US, the testimony of Stormy Daniels, Social Security, Boeing, Biden’s support for Israel, Trump’s legal woes, inter-state abortion immigration, the RNC, and MTG, before watching Brian Kilmeade attempt to spin Trump’s ongoing trials into victories for Trump’s enterprise. Next, they parse through the recent story around Hamas accepting a ceasefire-for-hostages deal, only for Israel to immediately turn around and kill the agreement as they moved forward with their invasion of Rafah, closing down Rafah crossing, demanding evacuation (from the last haven in Palestine), and separating families, in a desperate push to complete this ethnic cleansing. Sam and Emma look at the recent “warning” letter sent to the International Criminal Court by 12 GOP Senators (from McConnell to Cruz) threatening retaliation and worse if the ICC continues with its plan to issue arrest warrants for Bibi Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant, and tackle Biden’s impending deadline to prove Israel’s compliance with humanitarian law following the Leahy Law as they explore how the US’ unwavering support for this genocide has only further weakened the international “rules-based” order that Biden supposedly sought to restore. After walking through the recent reports on the promising future of Social Security and Medicaid, and the importance of expanded IRS capacity, Sam and Emma wrap up the free half with a deep dive into the recent revelations around Henry Cuellar’s corruption, and what that means for Democratic Party leadership’s support for his reelection.

And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma discuss the controversy around Kristi Noem undertaking a typical matriarchal task (slaughtering the family puppy), Bernadette from New England dives into the classism ingrained in the US Healthcare system, and Osama from North Carolina asks about Egypt’s potential in conflict with Israel. George Santos catches Nick Fuentes with a gotcha that could only stump a homophobic fascist, the right has a new solution for social alienation (a bogus male supplement), and Dan from Texas explores term limits for SCOTUS Justices. Clay from Minnesota discusses the administrative backlash to anti-war activism at Carleton College, plus, your calls and IMs!

Happy Monday! Sam and Emma speak with Eric Klinenberg, professor in social science and Director of the Institute for Public Knowledge at New York University, to discuss his recent book 2020: One City, Seven People, and the Year Everything Changed.  First, Sam and Emma run through updates on Israel’s staunch refusal to stop the bloodshed in Gaza, a tentative hold on US ammo to Israel, famine in Gaza, Missouri abortion rights, starvation in Sudan, US labor law, the downfall of Henry Cuellar, and Utah’s new tip line for anonymous genital reports. Professor Eric Klinenberg then joins, as he, Sam, and Emma preface the conversation with the idea of “natural disasters” largely being a function of society’s capacity to deal with natural phenomena, with “2020” looking at what the crises under COVID revealed about the incredibly precarious, fractured, and individualist society of the United States. Expanding on this, Professor Klinenberg tackles the ethnographic nature of this work, and the overwhelming nature of the trauma suffered by the public during the pandemic, something also seen during the Spanish Flu epidemic in the early 20th Century. After further contextualizing the United State’s role as an outlier in many regards when it came to the COVID-19 pandemic, including its supposedly elite levels of preparedness and its disproportionate failure in preventing deaths, Eric walks Sam and Emma through the unique failure that faced the US in the form of a complete abdication of leadership from the federal government – led (at the time) by the Trump Administration – in favor of extreme politicization, nihilism, and polarization at a time where social solidarity was of the utmost importance. Klinenberg looks at the glimmers of hope found throughout these crises, and how the government quickly stamped them out, before exploring the Biden Administration’s particular role in refusing to acknowledge or address the continuing effects of these crises, and the US’ ever-precarious footing heading into the 2024 election.

And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma watch as Mitt Romney lets the connection between Israel and the TikTok ban slip, and Alan Dershowitz offers to go to legal defense for the ultimate victims of anti-semitism: Christian Zionists. Ole Miss frat boys show up for apartheid, Kristi Noem objects to another fake-news narrative picked up from her autobiography, and Marjorie Taylor Greene just wants to be clear about who’s responsible for Jesus’ death. Jerry Seinfeld finally breaks through the shackles of Big Woke in his newest release "Unfrosted: the Pop-Tart Story", plus, your calls and IMs!

It's Casual Friday! Sam and Emma speak with Mehdi Hasan, founder, CEO, and editor-in-chief of the new media company Zeteo, to discuss the biggest stories of the week and his new venture. First, Sam & Emma check in on Trump's trial, where people are concerned about how he keeps falling asleep. But that doesn't matter to South Carolina diner patrons* (*Ainsley Earhardt's friends and family), including former South Carolina State Rep. Chip Huggins, who thinks Trump is being crucified in court. It also doesn't apply to NewsMax's Carl Higbie, who is ecstatic to see how much energy Trump is showing by taking a car from lower Manhattan to Trump Tower on 5th Avenue. Then Mehdi joins Sam and Emma, and they discuss how the propaganda in support of Israel appearing on news and social media is the greatest since the entire media machine threw itself behind the Iraq War in the early 2000's. They discuss President Biden's reactions to the campus protests, the weaponization of the word "democracy", the baffling decision by Senate Majority Leader Schumer to reportedly partner with Speaker Johnson to invite Netanyahu to address Congress, and also check out Sen. Bernie Sanders explaining why Israel may end up being President Biden's own version of Vietnam.

And in the Fun Half, the MR Crew check out Joe Rogan decrying out of control wokeness infiltrating college campuses, a respected Dartmouth history professor, Annelise Orleck, being forcibly arrested by police at a campus protest, Mehdi Hasan expertly dressing down Piers Morgan in a debate over the usage of the word "Intifada", and Donald Trump pretending like he doesn't know who RFK Jr. is when asked about him, even though they met at Trump Tower in 2016, and Trump is worried he's going to siphon votes away from him in November. Plus, your calls & IM's!

It’s an EmMajority Report Thursday! Emma speaks with César Cuauhtémoc García Hernández, Chair in Civil Rights and Civil Liberties at Ohio State University, to discuss his recent book Welcome the Wretched: In Defense of the “Criminal Alien”. Then, she speaks with Schuyler Mitchell, writer and fact checker based in Brooklyn, to discuss her recent piece in The Baffler entitled "Pinkwashing the Timeline". First, Emma runs through updates on the violent crackdown by police (and Zionist mobs) on UCLA’s anti-war encampment, Blinken’s visit to Israel ahead of a likely invasion of Rafah, Israeli settler attacks on Palestinian aid, the House’s bogus antisemitism bill, South Dakota abortion rights, Trump’s response to encampment raids, the death of a SECOND Boeing whistleblower, Amazon labor violations, and devastating floods in Kenya, before parsing through the rage-inducing coverage of the violent attacks on anti-war peaceful demonstrations on college campuses, with some help from the poorly-executed propaganda of the NYPD. César García Hernández then joins, diving right into the evolution of anti-immigrant rhetoric in the US, with the Reagan administration’s campaign for the War on Drugs recentering the narrative around crime, a position that mainstream Democrats like Bill Clinton and then-Senator Joe Biden would quickly assimilate to. Expanding on this, Hernández looks to the Obama Administration’s continuation of this narrative, with a regime of deportation framed around ideas like “Felons not Families” as he and Emma tackle the Democrats’ constant race to the right on immigration in a supposed (but never successful) pitch to GOP voters. After parsing through the central role that migrant labor plays in this political battle, they step back to assess the era of anti-immigrant rhetoric that came before the War on Drugs, with serious penalties for illegal entry and reentry stemming from the racist immigration laws on the books from the start of the 20th Century. Schuyler Mitchell then walks Emma through the concept of “pinkwashing,” or the dressing up of violent ideology in socially accepted liberal values, looking at Israel’s insistence on presenting itself as a progressive haven – in juxtaposition to their narrative of the “savage” Palestinians. Mitchell and Emma then look at a little classic Israeli liberal TV as they parse through the obvious homophobia and transphobia of Eretz Nehederet’s parody of Columbia students as a pitch-perfect example of Israel’s hypocrisy, before wrapping up with the role pinkwashing plays in Israel’s simultaneous self-victimization and self-valorization.

And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Matt Binder and Brandon Sutton as they discuss the typical “savages” arguments being made against Gazans, the NYPD’s propaganda launch in the wake of their violent raid on Columbia students, and watch JD Vance fall for the most obvious bait from Kaitlan Collins. Krystal Ball unpacks her cohost’s obvious fascism, Pete Cresswell reflects on the tradition of campus occupations, and America from México discusses transphobia on the left. Josh from Virginia breaks down the crackdown on UNC’s anti-war protests, the MR Team breaks down the outrageous “outside agitators” narrative with some help from the GOP’s big guns, and Kristi Noam struggles to come back from boasting about the murder of a 14-month-old dog, plus, your calls and IMs!

It's Hump Day! Sam speaks with Tyler Vasseur, letter carrier and shop steward in the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), Branch 9, to discuss his recent piece in Labor Notes entitled "Momentum for Open Bargaining Grows in the Letter Carriers." Then, Sam speaks with David Dayen, executive editor at the American Prospect, to discuss his recent piece outlining the new FTC rule regarding non-compete clauses, co-authored with Luke Goldstein. First, Sam runs through updates on escalating violence by police and Zionists against anti-war protesters, Netanyahu’s imminent invasion of Rafah, the Federal Reserve, Biden drug policy, state abortion bans, New York’s special election for Congress, Johnson and Johnson’s talc settlement, and labor rights, before watching Mike Johnson and Marjorie Taylor Greene trade shots ahead of a potential motion to vacate the Speakership. Tyler Vasseur then joined, first outlining NALC’s union structure and role as one of four postal unions, before exploring the progressive division between the unions – including the desynchronization of their contracts –  under the US’ shift into neoliberalism at the end of the 20th Century. Expanding on this, Vasseur explores the concept of “open bargaining,” and what it would mean in terms of activating and mobilizing NALC’s base of workers, as well as creating a much more transparent negotiating process. After walking through the major forces driving NALC members’ attempt at reform, and touching on the major roles of the US pre-funding mandate for the USPS and the 2008 Financial crisis in crippling industry wages, Tyler wraps up with the inspiring factor of the ongoing union renaissance in the US, and how this project has already begun to reshape organizing efforts within NALC. David Dayen and Sam then look to the absurd evolution of the “non-compete” contract clause, first popularized as a tool to prevent the spread of company secrets among executives, and now used to constrain some 30 million workers in industries from dog grooming to fast food. After expanding on the expansive chunk of our economy crippled by non-compete clauses, David walks us through the ongoing legal battle to overturn the bipartisan ban, how the legacy of Antonin Scalia looms large over this topic, and why the Supreme Court’s bogus “Major Questions” Doctrine is central to these arguments. After expanding on the likely evolution of this court battle, Dayen wraps up with a brief update on Live Nation’s attempt to court DC insiders with some help from the free (but evidently not priceless) press.

And in the Fun Half: Sam parses through yesterday’s mass escalation of violence against anti-war student protesters on college campuses across the US, with the NYPD sending a SWAT team to infiltrate the Student occupation of Harold Hall, and police in LA allowing a pro-Israel violent mob assault UCLA protesters, also expanding on the absurd and constant attempts to completely misrepresent these campus protests and the student activists behind them. Jose from Houston calls in with some updates on union business in the transport industry, Marcus from Huntington Beach explores the MAGA takeover of his local government and how to push back, Charlie Kirk shames Zionists for not thinking their grand Jewish conspiracy would come back around to hurt them, and Cory from Florida shares his experiences with the constraints of non-compete clauses. Dave Rubin floats his theory on the jihadists behind public health, and Paul Bet David admonishes a Columbia Student for not knowing NYU’s investment portfolio, in his leadup to platforming George Soros conspiracy, plus, your calls and IMs!
