3272 - Biden's Presser, Schumer's Pyrrhic Victory, & Pakistan Elections w/ Ryan Grim

It's Casual Friday! Sam and Emma speak with Ryan Grim, D.C. Bureau Chief at The Intercept and co-host of Counter Points, to round up the week in news. First, then run through updates on Israel’s expanding (and failing) assault on Gaza, the White House’s Leahy report, Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, immigration, inflation, and Missouri abortion law, before diving into Biden’s recent highlighting of an admittedly editorialized Special Council report on his handling of classified documents and the state of his memory. Ryan Grim then joins, diving right into his take on the insanity of the recent Special Council report coming out of Merrick Garland’s DOJ, the insanity of Biden’s response, and why it’s kind of his fault anyway, before touching on the other White House report on the Leahy law, and why Biden has not given Netanyahu any reason to stop his genocide. Next, Grim parses through the recent election interference coming out of Pakistan, with the former members of politically imprisoned Imran Khan’s PTI party seemingly having a resounding victory taken away from them through bribery, torture, and intimidation, also touching on his questioning of a State Department spokesperson on the issue, and what to expect from the authoritarian maneuver going forward.

And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma discuss the right-wing infighting over the recent immigration bill, the insanity of the abuses migrants are facing in the US, and the race for George Santos’ congressional seat. Rickey from San Diego gives some commentary on the various genocide cases against Israel, Ethan from LA discusses Joe Biden and Democrats’ ideological take on the border, and Tony from Baltimore asks some questions about wealth inequality and the housing market, plus, your calls and IMs!
