MIT American history professor Craig Steven Wilder author of the new book Ebony and Ivy: Race, Slavery, and the Troubled History of America’s Universities, explains the role of American university institution building and the slave trade, how college pursued wealth in the slave trade, how universities were a weapon of colonization, how early American universities fundraised by claiming to evangelize Native Americans, the links between the ideas that justified the slave trade and the destruction of Native Americans and the strong connection between northern and southern intellectual cultures in justifying slavery.
