The Majority Report with Sam Seder

It's News Day Tuesday! Sam and Emma break down the biggest headlines of the day. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on Israel expanding their invasion to Southern Gaza, US funding for Israel and Ukraine, conditioning aid to Israel, the US’ various showy legislative bills, Bob Menendez’s gold bar problem, CalState labor action, and Georgia’s institutionalized disenfranchisement, before parsing through the GOP’s continued attempt to keep the “Biden Crime Family” story in the media, without adding any new (or relevant) information. Next, they parse through the appearance of Josh Paul, the State Department official who resigned over stifled dissent around US support for Israel, on CNN, and the unsurprising revelations about Palestinian treatment in IDF captivity. They also watch a plea from a UNICEF worker to acknowledge the humanity of Palestinian children, and Israel’s horrors force even Jake Tapper to begin questioning their collective punishment.

And in the Fun Half: Donald Trump appears with Moms for America, Ben Shapiro accidentally calls God an incrementalist after doing a moral relativism, and Lek from Massapequa gives his take on yesterday’s interview. Jack from Colorado dives into the faux-intellectualism of the right wing, Oscar from DC discusses Univision-Trump collusion, and Ronald Raygun explores how he duped Dennis Prager. George Santos begins his reconciliation project with the American public, plus, your calls and IMs!

It's Casual Friday! Sam and Emma speak with Ryan Grim, DC Bureau Chief at The Intercept, to round up the week in news and discuss his new book The Squad: AOC and the Hope of a Political Revolution. Then, they're joined by Matthew Film Guy! First, Sam and Emma run through, updates on the martyrdom of George Santos, the resumption of Israel’s bombing of Gaza, Israel’s knowledge of Hamas’ plans before October 7th, Mike Johnson’s tenuous speakership, the UAW, the Florida GOP, the Senate’s subpoenas of Harlan Crowe and Leonard Leo, and Tommy Tubberville’s military obstruction, before watching Max Miller and George Santos beef on the house floor. Ryan Grim then joins, first contextualizing the state of the Democratic Congress as the (OG) Squad (Reps Tlaib, Ocasio-Cortez, Pressley, and Omar) first came to power, with the Obama-era rightward swing defining the politics of their colleagues. After briefly touching on the developments in US-Israel relations over the Obama Administration, which included the creation of J-Street as a more liberal counterpart to  AIPAC, Grim dives into the first major attack on the Squad members, with Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, the first two Muslim women elected to Congress, immediately coming under fire for daring to criticize Israel and the outsized impact AIPAC had in US politics. Expanding on this, Grim walks Sam and Emma through the relationship between the Squad and the Democratic Party, with his recent exposé on the particularly stifling role played by Nancy Pelosi in refusing to acknowledge or incorporate internal criticisms of her party from the progressive wing, before assessing the handing of the reins to Hakeem Jeffries, and his somewhat more amicable relationship to the left. Grim then dives into the continued role AIPAC and DMFI have in the Democratic Party – with Jeffries himself a major benefactor – as he explores the state of the Squad heading into the 2024 election – a cycle for which AIPAC has pledged hundreds of millions to unseat them – and what the future of the Congressional Progressive Caucus could hold, before wrapping up with a quick discussion on the particular role Israel’s ongoing siege of Gaza has played in the CPC. Matthew Film Guy then jumps into some subtle foreshadowing of his upcoming projects before parsing through the meat of his recommendations as he looks at various artistic and journalistic approaches to the Israeli occupation of Palestine, including the more brutal depictions of “Tsahal” and “Tantura.”

And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma watch Lauren Boebert and Steve Deece perfectly demonstrate the ongoing failure of the Republican Party, Gavin Newsome cucks Ron DeSantis, and the MR Crew discusses the canceling of Mehdi Hasan by MSNBC following critiques of Israeli occupation, plus, your calls and IMs!

It's an EmMajority Report Thursday! Emma speaks with writer Tim Shorrock to discuss the legacy of Henry Kissinger, who died last night. Then, she speaks with Adam Federman, reporting fellow at Type Investigations, to discuss his recent piece in In These Times entitled "The New Cold War in the Arctic." First, Emma runs through updates on the newest recipient of the kiss of death, Israel-Hamas prisoner swaps, US-Israel aid, the UAW’s ongoing unionization drive, Elon’s ongoing meltdown, COP28, the Senate vs. Supreme Court corruption, another Indian assassination attempt, and MSNBC’s cancellation of Mehdi Hasan’s show, before touching on the catharsis that is the death of Henry Kissinger. Tim Shorrock then gives his initial reflections on Kissinger’s passing and the myriad lies he told for the ends of US primacy. Shorrock and Emma trace Kissinger’s bloody footprints from Vietnam and East Timor to Argentina as they assess his unflinching ideology of American exceptionalism and hegemony and the uncompromising embrace of his myriad war crimes and genocides by the US political class. After assessing some of the major responses to Kissinger’s passing, as well as his central role in shaping the revolving door of US politics, they wrap up with a reflection on the continuation of his legacy in Israel’s ongoing ethnic cleansing of Gaza. Adam Federman then brings us to Greenland as he walks through the multiple layers of US state interest in the land, with a particular focus on military strategy and resource extraction. First, he and Emma look to the post-WW2 settling of myriad US military bases (and the related displacement of indigenous communities) on the island, and the continued emphasis on its geopolitical location amid growing Russia-NATO tensions, before wrapping up with the growing potential for mineral and environmental extraction in a surprisingly attractive (white, European) country.

And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Brandon Sutton and Matt Binder as they watch Kristie Noam take on the hard job of discussing history for the Fox News audience, before taking their own time to reflect on the bloody legacy of Henry Kissinger and his mantle in US politics. Fransisco from Pomona discusses changing tides around shoplifting, and the MR Crew does a deep dive into Elon Musk’s recent interview about everything from Twitter’s ongoing advertiser exodus amid growing antisemitism on the platform to his “totally unrelated” trip to Israel. Lucas from Montana discusses a new take on the Big Lie, plus, your calls and IMs!

It's Hump Day! Sam speaks with Kate Aronoff, staff writer focusing on climate at the New Republic, to discuss the upcoming COP28 climate summit. First, Sam runs through updates on Israel and Hamas’ tenuous truce, Saudi Arabia-Iran relations, growing aid for Gaza, the potential for the US conditioning aid to Israel, the martyrdom of George Santos, Nikki Haley’s big Koch endorsement, and challenges to Iowa’s right-wing legislation, before diving into the absurdity of the GOP now refusing to hold public testimony over the Biden Crime Family investigation. Kate Aranoff and Sam then dive into the UN’s Conference of Parties (COP), an international meet and greet on climate change with both state and private actors invited, which has seen the signing of documents like the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement, and its problematic (and unsurprising) relationship with major state and private actors involved in the production of fossil fuels. After parsing through some major examples – and why they genuinely represent the UN’s goals in “solving” climate change – Aranoff wraps up by assessing the future (and future corruption) of the Conference of Parties.

And in the Fun Half: Sam discusses the Senate’s growing drive for conditioning aid to Israel amid the IDF’s losing PR battle (due to outrageous war crimes), Ryan from Wisconsin helps Sam parse through the USDA’s official updates on fruit hardiness, a Canadian caller tackles Canada’s role in thwarting Maine’s Pine Tree Power initiative, and Mike Johnson and Fox try to speak for the facts of the Hunter Biden case. Sam also parses through the recent discourse around Joe Biden’s economy, Jeremy Boering and Tim Pool try to solve racism via a purge-like catharsis, and Tom from Chicago brings the Daily Wire’s newest film into the conversation. Robbie from St. Louis pitches a potential media literacy campaign, plus, your calls and IMs!

It's News Day Tuesday! Sam and Emma break down the biggest headlines of the day. After a reflection on Sam's birthday (today!) and the anniversary of Mike Cernovich's attempted cancellation of Sam, he and Emma take a look at a report, first seen on an Israeli public broadcast then translated by the Times of Israel, that Prime Minister Netanyahu appealed to members of the Likud Party that, basically, he has no allegiance to President Biden and will do whatever he wants when it comes to Gaza. Wonder how folks in the Biden administration feel about that! Then, they break down Moore v. United States, a case the Supreme Court will hear in the next few weeks that would essentially, before it'd even have a chance to become government policy, foreclose the possibility of a wealth tax in this country. After, they touch on a report from the Seattle Times on local Macy's worker walking off the job for better pay but (surprise!) also due to fears for their safety because the business they work for isn't interested in actually creating a safe working environment free from threats of shoplifting and other issues retail workers have to face on a daily basis (and we thought business owners cared about crime!)

And in the Fun Half, Sam and Emma check in on the tuxedoed former Speaker, Kevin McCarthy, at a debate with the Oxford Union where he, and stop me if you've heard this before, ahistorically claims that the U.S. has NEVER asked for land during an armed conflict (wonder why they never asked)! Then, they check in on UAW president Shawn Fain, already making plans for huge labor organizing efforts in May Day of 2028, 6 months before the next presidential election and coinciding with when the UAW's next contract runs out. Sam, Emma, and the MR Crew then check in on Biden's approval ratings surrounding the economy (not good!) and what, if anything, he can do to improve on those poll numbers (maybe...run on something? Anything?) And FINALLY, courtesy of Ronald Raygun, Sam gets a very special birthday present: the opportunity to appear LIVE on Dennis Prager's show! Plus, your calls & IM's!

Happy Monday! Sam and Emma speak with Naomi Klein, professor of Climate Justice at the University of British Columbia, to discuss her recent book Doppelganger: A Trip into the Mirror World. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on Israel and Hamas’ prisoner exchanges and ceasefire, the arrest of an individual over the shooting of three Palestinian men in Vermont, the return from Congressional recess, labor action with Portland’s teachers, Seattle’s Macy’s workers, and European Amazon workers, COP28, Meta’s exploitation of kids, and Twitter’s ad-emergency, also touching on Christ Murphy’s comments regarding conditioning aid to Israel (like we do with everyone else). Naomi Klein then jumps right into her metaphor of “doppelgangers” in politics, and the mirroring and corruption of various political movements in the age of the internet. Expanding on this, Klein dives into the role of COVID as a major accelerant in this corruption, looking to the sudden unified radicalization of the wellness left and the ultra-religious right, and how it played into an increasing trend of rapidly dropping faith in US political institutions and their systems of accountability, with right-wing conspiracy offering a (pseudo) solution as the center and left continuously failed to provide theirs. Next, Naomi walks Sam and Emma through the far-right’s active organizing around this tactic, with Steve Bannon’s global network of far-right parties fusing the age-old phobias of fascism with weak claims of economic populism, and why the only true counter to that is a strong left-wing that presents and fights for genuine solutions to rampant economic and social inequality. After briefly touching on Israel’s role as a doppelganger of Bannon’s politics, attempting to solve anti-semitism not through acceptance and justice, but a hyper-nationalist project, before wrapping up with the coincidence of the loss of Bernie’s campaign with the COVID-19 pandemic, and how it forced the left to reflect on its failures.

And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma watch Dave Rubin and Trump’s Ambassador to Israel rant about the immigrants behind rising anti-semitism, Meir Baruchin discusses his arrest and abuse by Israeli police over pro-Palestinian Facebook posts, and Lisa Booth and Charlie Hurt reflect on the biggest political story of the year – the woke crusade against gas stoves. They also reflect on the recent history of US-Israel relations, and Biden’s legacy of an extreme commitment to Israel’s imperialism goals, plus, your IMs!

Happy Hump Day! Emma speaks with Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), to discuss the recent victories pro-public education candidates have had over right wing candidates in the most recent school board races. Then, Emma speaks with AMQuickie co-writer Jacob Silverman to discuss his recent piece in The Nation on Sam Altman's mysterious departure from OpenAI. And THEN, she's joined by Jason Myles, co-host of the This Is Revolution podcast, to discuss his recent mini-book release of I Was A Teenage Anarchist. First, Emma runs through updates on the death toll in Gaza climbing over 14k, Israel’s striking of Humanitarian locations provided by the US, Ro Khana’s call for a ceasefire, the growing anti-Palestinian Red Scare in Hollywood, a former Obama Advisor’s harassment of a halal street vendor, organizing for reproductive rights, Wisconsin’s Supreme Court, labor action among California educators, and a potential Andrew Cuomo mayoral run, before parsing through the recent announcement of a four-day PAUSE in Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, and the Biden Administration’s internal fear of honest journalism about the war. Randi Weingarten then joins, as she quickly runs through the astounding failure of the attempted right-wing takeover of local school boards, with candidates backed by Mom’s for Liberty and the 1776 Project losing 70% of their races, including losing 8/10 in regions where they had seen previous victory, and how these results show what actual parental rights look like. Jacob Silverman then joins, diving right into OpenAI – the largest AI startup in Silicon Valley – Sam Altman – the CEO of said $80 billion startup – and this weekend’s attempted removal of Altman by the board. Silverman walks through Altman’s powerful role among Silicon Valley’s elites, particularly among the cash cows, also touching on OpenAI’s internal conflict between its cautious non-profit elements and its bullish members with grandiose visions, and how the mass funding required in this industry forces the integration of AI, regardless of its quality or moral clarity. After walking through the details of OpenAI’s board’s sudden firing of Altman, and the equally sudden (and successful) revolt against that decision, Silverman touches on the state of the AI tech bubble (particularly in comparison to the Crypto bubble), before briefly wrapping up with the guilty plea of Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao. Jason Myles helps round out the episode as he and Emma walk through the evolution of his mini-book “I Was A Teenage Anarchist,” and the parallels he sees in the fight between deconstruction and authenticity in the hardcore punk scene of the 1990s and 2000s, and the ongoing internal conflicts of the US’ embryonic left. Myles touches on the additional parallels for the branding of both punk and leftism, before expanding on the need for a solid material and power analysis in pushing for actual material change – particularly within the context of social versus political and legislative progress.

And in the Fun Half, Emma and the MR Crew react to the disgraceful behavior of Stuart Seldowitz, a former State Department staffer caught on video making racist, Islamophobic comments towards one halal cart vendor repeatedly on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. They also take a look at Iraqi-Israeli historian Avi Shlaim's remarks about the establishment of the Israeli state in the late 40's, and how the Zionist project precipitated geopolitical and religious conflict in the region. Finally, the MR Crew signs off with a fantastic message ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday from the person everyone needs to hear from before they give thanks: Former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee. Plus, your calls & IM's!

It's News Day Tuesday! But first, Sam and Emma speak with Jacob Sugarman, lifestyle editor at the Buenos Aires Herald and writer at The Nation, to discuss Javier Milei's recent victory in Argentina's presidential election. First, Sam and Emma react to the absolute shock from the crew over at "The Daily", the New York Times podcast, and CNN's Christiane Amanpour, that Israel could've potentially constructed the tunnels under Al-Shifa hospital that Hamas is supposedly using to conduct their operations in Gaza. Then, Jacob returns to the program to react to Javier Milei's resounding victory in the presidential race in Argentina. Jacob runs through how Milei, while slightly underperforming in the general election, received a groundswell of coalition support from the right to catapult him to victory in the runoff against his opponent Sergio Massa. Jacob, while not wanting to make too broad of a comparison between Argentinian and American politics, does see Milei's coalition support on the right as analogous to the wagon circling that took place within in the GOP under Trump. Jacob runs through some of Milei's policy prescriptions and oddities (like...potentially tapping his sister to be first lady), and then Emma has Jacob run through why, contrary to certain political victories recently by the left in countries such as Brazil and Chile, Argentina's left has proved itself to be rather anemic. Jacob also runs through some of the broad strokes of context of the political movement of the Peronists, and whether or not the party itself continues to have any viability after Milei's resounding victory. After Jacob jumps off, Sam and Emma break down the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals taking another stab at gutting the Voting Rights Act, this time going after Section 2, making it more difficult for voting rights groups and other entities to file legal challenges against discriminatory voting practices.

And in the Fun Half, the MR Crew reacts to Sen. Markwayne Mullin, fresh off his potential title bout against Teamsters President Sean O'Brien, going on Fox Business to explain that, actually, Gazans don't live in a ghetto and could go anywhere they want if they'd just endure entering and exiting checkpoints! (Is that right?). Sam and Emma then check in on Nikki Haley's race for 2nd place, which includes getting owned by a girl at one of her rallies who, contrary to Nikki's wishes, is just wearing her campaign merch because it was free. Mike Lindell puts himself up (again) to be RNC Chair if Trump gives him the call, and then Sam, Emma and the MR Crew really go into the Right Wing Freak Swamp for some fun: Dave Rubin's reactions to the Ben Shapiro/Candace Owens spat, and Tim Pool coming to the ardent defense of...Marvel movies. Plus, your calls & IM's!
