On today's show:

Nomiki Konst (@NomikiKonst), of The Nomiki Show, joins Sam to discuss the political and economic aspects of the Covid-19 crisis. Covid's impact on small businesses. Trump downplays New York's ventilator needs on Hannity. Ainsley Earhardt questions if NY really needs that many ventilators, says now is not the time for Cuomo to play the blame game. Is Trump saving the federal government's supply of ventilators for swing states? AOC slams the Senate's corporate bailout bill on house floor. The privatization that goes on under disaster capitalism. Will New York's Democratic primary be moved back or eliminated? Jamie returns for a discussion of former staffer Tara Reade's new sexual assault allegation against Biden.

On the fun half: Film Guy Matthew stops by to recommend some films: Zero Mostel plays a bad guy in Elia Kazan's 1950 noir "Panic in the Streets." Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Alan Arkin star in Zach Braff's 2017 heist comedy "Going In Style." The recently deceased have just one week to choose one memory to keep for eternity in Hirokazu Koreeda's 1998 fantasy-drama "Afterlife." Jeff Bridges stars in John Huston's 1972 neo-noir boxing drama "Fat City." And Candid Camera's 1970 hidden camera style reality film "What Do You Say To A Naked Lady?" provides a window into the casual misogyny of the time.

Trump says nobody could've prepared for this, that he inherited a broken situation, and he doesn't need the Deference Production Act. Trump says "things are being considered" for people with no health insurance, "a lot of different things." 2017: Steve Bannon says Trump's goal is the “deconstruction of the administrative state.” Matt Walsh, Daily Wire Christian-in-Chief, draws false equivalence between auto deaths & Covid-19 mortality projections. Dennis Prager skeptical of quarantine effectiveness, says quarantine should only stay in effect if death toll surpasses flu numbers (30,000 -50,000).

David Dayen, the Executive Editor at The American Prospect, joins Sam to discuss the Senate stimulus package and the "money bazooka" it aims directly to large corporations and CEOs. Sam and Dayen break down how the bailout will work for industries like the airlines and workers. Dayen explains the absurdity of Democrats means-testing the one time $1200 lump sum, the complicated unemployment insurance expansion, and why the census delivery might be the best means to deliver aid to Americans. Dayen then describes how the Fed's leveraged lending will work and why the Democrats' oversight board will be ineffective, and it will create more significant wealth disparities.

And in the Fun Half: Michael and Sam critique the Senate bailout from the left, Bernie Sanders rails against GOP senators who are "concerned" about unemployment insurance payments, Hannity can't decide how to approach the bailout, Trump says the media wants everyone to suffer through Covid19, plus your IMs!

Alex Sammon (@alex_sammon), staff writer at the American Prospect, joins Sam to discuss the Covid-19 stimulus and his new piece, "It’s Time to Nationalize the Airlines." In light of the Covid-19 crisis, the Republicans want to offer the airline industry a no-strings-attached bailout; the Democrats' bailout has some strings, but not many. Tracing the history of airlines in the US, paying special attention to their deregulation under President Carter, Sammon makes the case that nationalizing the airlines would be the best option for the public good and perhaps even the airlines themselves.

US unemployment may hit 30% this summer (it was 25% during the Great Depression). Local Florida County Commissioner claims you can use a blowdryer to treat Covid-19. Covid-19 spread timeline in TN/KY.

On the fun half: Joe Biden finally releases short video on pandemic response. Trump says hospital workers should sanitize and reuse masks. Trump's WH had warnings from intel agencies going back to January, did nothing. Trump says he's not using the Defense Production Act because companies are doing the right thing anyway. Graph of Covid-19 spread in different countries shows the US is not flattening the curve. Poll: Democrats taking the pandemic more seriously than Republicans. FEMA administrator refuses to provide straight answer about shipping out the federal stockpile of masks. Why progressives should hate Andrew Cuomo. Does the MR crew wear pants when broadcasting remotely?

Sam is joined by Alex Pareene (@pareene) of the New Republic and Brendan James (@deep_beige) of the new Iraq War podcast "Blowback," to recap the week's news and most important stories.

On today's show: Plugs and notices! New Everly Well Covid-19 test costs $135, should be free. NY state senator Andrew Gounardes and Bay Ridge Cares soliciting volunteers; sign up here. Wrong world ceramics making flasks, other things. Visit coworker.org to petition Trader Joe’s for hazard pay for its workers. Support the arts during this time: musicalartists.org/membership/relieffund, actorsfund.org. Support Invisible Mass Records. And don't forget justcoffee.coop!

Alex Pareene (@pareene), staff writer at The New Republic, joins Sam to discuss the political implications of the Covid-19 pandemic. Will Trump's poor handling of the pandemic hurt him politically? The Democrats have been terrible at assigning blame thus far, so probably not. The Democrats' utter failure in leadership. Burr, Loffler, others should be held to account for insider trading during a crisis. Where is Cuomo's plan? Sam narcs on some people for stealing from Home Depot.

Brendan James (@deep_beige), former producer of Chapo Trap House, joins Sam to discuss "Blowback," his new Iraq War podcast. The definition of "blowback." What history the podcast covers. The involvement of great talents like James Adomian and mediocre ones like H. Jon Benjamin. The right-wing utopianism involved in the US-led reconstruction of Iraq. The power wielded by neocon ideologues and weird horny college grads. The US failure to even get the oil. The regime change wish list and Rumsfeld's admission that Iraq was low-hanging fruit. The mysterious disappearance of billions of dollars.

Video calendar of Trump's statements on Covid-19. Richard Burr calls NPR report on his insider trading “tabloid style hit piece.” Tucker Carlson says Burr must resign and face prosecution, betrayed his country. March 10: Sen. Kelly Loffler (R-GA) after selling stocks, buying telework stock, tells constituents via Twitter that America is Prepared for Covid-19. Trump says it's not the federal government's job to provide supplies to states in need. Press conference: Trump says WH was prepared for Covid-19, just not for the media’s unfair scrutiny. Trump nods off during Covid-19 WH task force meeting. Where should the grassroots movement behind Bernie Sanders go from here? Joe Biden calls on every CEO in America to promise not to do stock buybacks.

Sam, broadcasting from his remote studio, is joined by Elie Mystal (@ElieNYC), Justice Correspondent at the Nation, to discuss his March cover story, "If We Don’t Reform the Supreme Court, Nothing Else Will Matter."

On today's show: Why aren't they postponing the primaries?

Sam is joined by Elie Mystal (@ElieNYC), Justice Correspondent at the Nation, to discuss his March cover story, "If We Don’t Reform the Supreme Court, Nothing Else Will Matter. The failures of both Bernie and Biden, respectively, to deal with the political nature of the Supreme Court. How "strict constructionism" is used as a smokescreen for a reactionary program. How the Federalist Society has stacked the court with conservative judges. The Democrats' failure to deal with (and/or tacit support of?) the SCOTUS' increasingly right-wing character. How can we reform the court? How could the GOP tamper with the 2020 election?

Will COVID-19 help or hurt Bernie's chances in the primary? We just don't know yet!

On the fun half: Biden's terrible record on Social Security. Tom Cotton says Democrat's House COVID-19 relief bill won't pass Senate because it doesn't go far enough, fast enough. Devin Nunes says you should go out to restaurants and pubs, then claims he meant drive-thrus and delivery. A plug for Bob Altemeyer's "The Authoritarian Personality." Stuart Varney says airlines deserve to be bailed out because they're "like a utility." Fox and Friends chide spring breakers in Florida for crowding beaches, promote Ainsley's friend's chicken salad chain restaurant (it's open, folks!). German start-up produced 1.4 million COVID-19 tests but the US turned them down. Daily Wire host says he hopes the virus will make women stay home with the kids more because that's what God wants, bashes public schools. Gristedes CEO says Trump has done everything right, is "tough enough" to force a vaccine out if a company has it.

Sam breaks down last night’s debate and what to expect moving forward as the Majority Report does its part to flatten the curve with social distancing practices and telework. Sam discusses plans to move Majority Report production to his satellite studio and shares precautions listeners should take to help prevent the spread of the virus. Before leaving the MR studio for the foreseeable future, Sam examines the Trump administration’s inaction and its 2018 decision to disband the NSC pandemic response team. On this freebie Monday, in the second half of the show, Sam recaps last night’s Democratic debate between Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders. Sam explains why Sanders should have capitalized on Biden’s decision to attack Sanders “super PACs,” none of which the former Vice President could name. And why progressives need to start asking Biden about the “new normal” why his platform of returning to Obama-era policy is no longer possible in the wake of this pandemic.
