It's Casual Friday! Sam and Emma host Ryan Grim, DC Bureau Chief at The Intercept, to round up the week in news. First, Emma runs through updates on Merrick Garland’s investigation into the President having access to classified documents, the House increasing member compensation, the LAPD’s killing of Keenan Anderson, and the horrific cost of severe weather events in the US, before she and Sam dive into Kevin McCarthy’s debut press conference immediately devolving to back-to-back conflicting statements. Ryan Grim then joins as he gets right into assessing the start of this term of a Republican-led House, walking through the central components of his concessions, beginning with the return to obsessing about the debt ceiling, before touching on the discharge petition, how it opens the door to Democratic legislation, and who’s relevance in Congress it might increase. They also tackle the likelihood of a social security cut, whether Hakeem Jeffries will push a Stock Trading Ban, the Democrats’ role in GOP committees, and the future of anti-trust and anti-inflation policy, before wrapping up the interview by analyzing the upcoming battle for Dianne Feinstein’s seat.

And in the Fun Half: Emma and the MR Crew discuss the bad faith that goes into anti-vaxxers’ arguments on increases to cardiac arrest and myocarditis numbers, Candace Owens’ takes on hunting Fauci and being a black figurehead for white supremacy, and Louis from Palm springs talks movie recs. James from FT Worth discusses arming teachers, Glenn Beck debunks the globalists’ diet, and Hakeem Jeffries goes the Lin-Manuel route of focusing on platitudes over policies. Matt Gaetz fills in for Steve Bannon to talk with George Santos, and it’s just as wild as you’d expect, and Matt from Seattle discusses updates on the Wizards of the Coast’s (Dungeons and Dragons, Magic the Gathering) attempt to crack down on the creative license to their games, plus, your calls and IMs!
